Job description

CONSTRUCTION LABORER

Heavy Highway / Civil Construction - Union Position (LIUNA)

Location: Lowellville, OH - projects throughout Ohio and Western Pennsylvania

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: Union scale per the applicable CBA plus full fringe benefit package

Reports To: Foreman / General Foreman

ABOUT THE WORK

S.E.T., Inc is a heavy highway and civil contractor performing roadway reconstruction, bridge work, underground utilities, grading, drainage, and site development throughout Ohio and Western Pennsylvania and growing. Our work includes ODOT, PennDOT, county, municipal, and private projects - including prevailing wage / Davis-Bacon work. We're hiring Construction Laborers to run with our crews this season and beyond!

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

- Setting and maintaining work zone traffic control - cones, drums, barricades, signage, temporary striping, and flagging operations

- Assisting with underground utility installation: storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main - pipe laying, bedding and backfill, catch basins, manholes, laser and grade work

- Concrete work - setting and stripping forms, placing and finishing curb and gutter, sidewalk, barrier wall, headwalls, and bridge deck work

- Asphalt paving support - raking, luting, shoveling, joint and crack sealing, working around the paver and rollers

- Hand excavation around live utilities, grade checking, and general grade work

- Demolition and saw cutting, jackhammer and pneumatic tool operation

- Rebar placement and tying

- Erosion and sediment control - silt fence, inlet protection, seeding and mulching

- Guardrail and attenuator installation, signpost setting

- Operating small equipment as assigned: plate compactor, jumping jack, walk-behind roller, concrete saw, chainsaw, trash pumps, skid steer

- Loading, unloading, and staging materials; daily site cleanup and housekeeping

- Following all safety policies, JSAs, and toolbox talks; keeping the work zone safe for the crew and the traveling public

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- 1-3 years of heavy highway, civil, or underground construction experience preferred, but candidates willing to learn will be considered

- Ability to read and follow grade stakes, cut sheets, and basic plan information

- Familiarity with work zone setup and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) standards

- Comfortable working around heavy equipment, live traffic, and in open excavations

- Dependable attendance and the ability to work as part of a crew

- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to jobsites

- Willingness to travel and work out of town, including occasional out-of-state project assignments

CERTIFICATIONS (CURRENT OR WILLING TO OBTAIN)

- OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction

- Work zone / flagger certification (ATSSA or state-approved)

- Confined space entry, trench safety awareness

- First Aid / CPR

- MSHA Part 46/48 for aggregate or plant-adjacent work

- CDL Class A or B - a plus, not required

UNION MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT

LIUNA - Laborers' International Union of North America

This is a union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA).

Applicants who are not currently members in good standing of a Laborers' Union must be willing and able to join the Union and to maintain membership and pay applicable dues and fees, in accordance with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, as a condition of continued employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50-75 lbs.

- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work on uneven ground for a full shift

- Work outdoors in all weather - heat, cold, rain, and mud

- Overtime, weekend, night shift, and out-of-town work may be required depending on the project

- Pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing per company and CBA policy
