Position Location:Raleigh, NC. Hybrid position: onsite three days per week.

Job Summary

The VP Mortgage Operations is responsible for leading Coastal's mortgage operations including origination, underwriting, and administration. This role will drive operational efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and build high-performing teams. As a highly visible leader, this role will collaborate across divisions to execute Coastal's strategic vision.

As a key contributor to the Coastal team, your responsibilities will be:
  • (20%) Architect and implement strategies to enhance underwriting, closing, and post-closing processes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • (20%) Drive strategic oversight of underwriting, closing, post-closing, and quality control processes to ensure precision, regulatory compliance, and adherence to internal standards, while enhancing the borrower experience. Lead implementation of corrective action plans to mitigate risk and optimize operational integrity.
  • (20%) Formulate, design, and execute underwriting policies and procedures that align with industry standards and regulatory requirements to ensure robust credit risk assessment and informed decision-making.
  • (20%) Spearhead the management of lending origination systems and lead the development of technology solutions to drive operational efficiency and innovation.
  • (10%) Provide executive management with strategic insights on loan origination performance, underwriting quality, closing efficiency, and secondary market outcomes. Analyze data to deliver actionable feedback and coordinate with stakeholders to streamline closing processes.
  • (10%) Strategically manage relationships with regulators, agency partners, vendors, attorneys, title companies, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and regulatory compliance.

  • Fifteen years of mortgage lending experience including managing mortgage products for the secondary market and at least ten years of underwriting, processing, and closing experience
  • Experience with residential mortgage regulations, underwriting practices, secondary market operations, and best practices for loan origination workflows and processes
  • Experience with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac products, services, and guidelines
  • Minimum of five years' management experience including hiring, leading, and coaching staff
Education
  • Related bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • DE and SAR underwriting certification
  • Encompass Administrator Certification preferred
