What you will do

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual to join our team as a Commercial Lines Associate Underwriter/Underwriter Trainee. In this role, you will be responsible for screening applications for missing information, contacting and working with agencies to obtain necessary information, and evaluating the acceptability of applications. You will also assist in the renewal process by reviewing loss activity and requesting and evaluating loss runs and driver lists. Additionally, you will be responsible for initiating cancellation notices and reviewing and screening loss control reports. Key responsibilities

  • Screen applications for missing information.
  • Contact and work with agency to obtain and make initial evaluation of acceptability based on received information.
  • Revise TAS worksheets and update as needed based on additional information obtained on the insured.
  • Request and evaluate loss runs.
  • Review loss activity on renewals.
  • Request driver list, order and evaluate motor vehicle reports.
  • Initiate cancellation notices.
  • Review and screen loss control reports. Compare and verify findings with underwriting file information (COPE, sales, payroll, number of employees, etc.). Update Underwriting Checklist as needed. Follow up on outstanding loss control recommendations.
  • Research insured’s website, social media sites and conduct a general search of internet.
  • Review and issue endorsements.
  • Set and follow up on diary items.
  • Prepare and send conditional renewal notices.
  • Identify and document marketing classifications.
  • Prepare quote proposals.
  • Import email, fax and reports into OnBase.
  • Follow up on reinsurance certificates.
  • Add SIC on Underwriting Checklist for Commercial Edge business.
  • Underwrite and issue designated small new non-flow regional business.
  • Underwrite and issue designated regional renewal business.
  • Review new business 45 day check list to ensure file is in order – reports ordered, outstanding items addressed and diaries are set.
  • Form and build relationships with agencies.

What you will need

  • High school diploma or equivalent; 2-4 year college preferred
  • Insurance agency or commercial insurance business background desired
  • Key Skills: logical, analytical, decision-making, self-motivated, organized

Salary range: $41,000-$61,500

The final salary to be paid and position within the internal salary range will take into consideration the individual’s work experience, geographic location, education, certification(s) or additional qualifications, and scope and responsibilities within the role.
