Job description

Job Summary:  

As a Backhoe Operator you will be a vital member of our pipe crew, responsible for operating and maintaining a backhoe to support the installation of water, sewer, and drainage systems. Your expertise will ensure the safe and precise excavation required for the successful completion of underground utility projects.

  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain a backhoe with precision, following project plans and specifications for excavation and trenching.
  • Safety: Strictly adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your team, as well as compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Trenching and Excavation: Perform trenching and excavation tasks to prepare the work area for pipe installation, ensuring proper depth and alignment.
  • Material Handling: Handle pipes, materials, and other equipment required for the project, positioning them accurately for installation.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that excavation work meets project standards, blueprints, and design specifications.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with the pipe crew, Pipe Crew Foreman, and other team members to coordinate excavation activities and achieve project goals.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with team members and supervisors, reporting progress, challenges, and equipment issues as needed.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine equipment maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, and promptly reporting any equipment issues to the maintenance department.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records, including daily equipment inspection reports, work logs, and any required documentation.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and address operational challenges or issues that may arise during excavation work.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Backhoe Operator in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining backhoes for excavation and trenching tasks.
  • Knowledge of construction plans, blueprints, and underground utility installation techniques.
  • Strong commitment to safety and strict adherence to safety protocols.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and at different job sites as required.
