Job description

AUI Inc. (AUI Power) is seeking a skilled, self-motivated, and dependable team player to join our AUI Power as an Underground Groundhand. This role is ideal for individuals who take pride in physical, hands-on work and want to end each day knowing they contributed to essential infrastructure. Guided by our core values - Team First, Customer Focus, and Own It, our leadership team brings firsthand field experience and a strong commitment to operational excellence and safety.
Position Summary:
The Underground Groundhand will work with, and train alongside experienced crew members to support electrical underground power distribution systems throughout the DC metropolitan area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Act as a general helper by passing tools and materials to crew members as needed
  • Handle cables, conduit, and other materials under direction of the crew lead
  • Assist with setting transformers and underground utility distribution equipment
  • Perform hand digging of ditches and holes using hand tools
  • Remove, relocate, and backfill soil and debris using shovels, rakes, and related tools
  • Learn to and safely operate power-driven equipment such as jackhammers, tampers, and drills
  • Know and follow safety rules, practices, and regulations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Clean and maintain equipment, trucks, and tools
  • Site cleanup

Minimum Requirements:
  • 1 Year experience in the construction industry preferred
  • Must have a current, valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Work 40+ hours per week to include during inclement weather, holidays, and/or weekends as needed
  • Willing to work overtime, travel long distances on short notice for storm and/or emergency events as needed
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screen
