This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, San Carlos Irrigation Project in Coolidge, Arizona.
The Electrician Helper will assist the journeyman (lineman) with dissemination of tools and work materials. The position is under the supervision of the Power Manager

As Electrician Helper, BB-2810, your typical work assignments may include, but not limited to:
aiding in the construction, maintenance, and repairs of electrical substations, substation equipment, transmission and underground/overhead distribution power lines. This assistance involves loading and unloading material, framing substation steel/wood works, stringing conductors, pulling underground cables and supplying the electrician with tools and materials.

  • As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated
  • A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • If you are a male applicant born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency.
  • Incumbent is required to operate a government motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license, and have a safe driving record within the 3 year period immediately preceding submittal of GSA Form 3607.
  • Drug Testing. This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.
  • The newly appointed employee must obtain/possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the first six months of employment.

Qualifications
This position is OPEN UNTIL FILLED and may be extended or closed prior to the current closing date. Applications will be reviewed every two weeks; the first cut-off date for applications is 10 business days from the opening date and every two weeks thereafter. Applicants with 10-point Veterans' Preference who submit a complete application after each two week cut-off date, but before the List of Eligibles is issued, will be considered and referred on the List, if qualified.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards ).
To qualify for Electrician Helper BB-2810-00: Must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Examples of qualifying experience include: Work experience as an Electrician Helper aiding in the construction, maintenance, and repairs of electrical substations, substation equipment, transmission and underground/overhead distribution power lines. This assistance involves loading and unloading material, framing substation steel/wood works, stringing conductors, pulling underground cables and supplying the electrician with tools and material. The incumbent will operate cranes, hoists, booms, diggers, and pullers under general supervision of an Electrician and/or Foreman.
If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT JOB ELEMENT, Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work under conditions of continuing high physical demand frequently required to lift items weighing over fifty pounds. Works at ground level and in ground trenches. Work requires bending, stooping, and standing for long periods. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body is needed in installing and repairing equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Is subject to extremes of weather conditions including dust and lightning storms, high winds and temperature range of near freezing to 120 degrees F while in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment.
All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.
