UCT is looking for a talented Welder IV to join us in Chandler!

The Aluminum TIG Welder IV performs advanced welding, fabrication, and repair of metal components using Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) techniques. This role works on complex, close-tolerance weldments following AWS codes and symbols, ensuring precision and quality. Responsibilities include layout, fit/tack, and fabrication using fixtures and jigs, while maintaining safety standards and equipment care.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interpret work orders, prints, and instructions to plan welding procedures, tools, and material requirements.
  • Perform MIG and TIG welding on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and sheet metal components to meet AWS standards.
  • Lay out, fit, tack, and fabricate weldments with multiple details using fixtures and jigs where applicable.
  • Clean and prepare surfaces for welding; inspect completed welds for compliance with quality standards.
  • Operate welding machines, hand tools, air tools, and grinders; perform minor equipment maintenance.
  • Use measuring devices (micrometers, calipers, tape measures) to ensure accuracy and precision.
  • Maintain safe work practices and adhere to company safety policies.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned tools and equipment; perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience
  • Expert proficiency in MIG and especially TIG welding techniques and processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and AWS welding symbols accurately.
  • Skilled in working with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and sheet metal.
  • Strong understanding of welding machine setup and operation.
  • Ability to perform welds that meet visual inspection and destructive testing standards.
  • Proficiency in using measuring tools and performing basic math calculations, including conversions.
  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques, cutting, burning, and surface preparation.
  • Competence in operating hand tools, air tools, and electric grinders safely and effectively.
Education, Certifications, Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in welding.
  • Two-year vocational welding program or equivalent experience.
Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment.
  • The worker has protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment where applicable.

  • Subject to hazards including electrical current, moving mechanical parts, and exposure to chemicals.
  • May involve exposure to noise hazard areas.
  • Overnight Travel - Work may require out-of-town travel depending upon assignment (training and meeting).
Physical Demands
  • Work may require the ability to lift 10-20 pounds infrequently.
  • Ability to lift, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp.
  • Prolonged standing and bending intermittently during work hours.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to move arms, hands, and fingers to type.
  • Close vision required.
