Hiring for William Rains HS Location

Work Week & Hours: three days per week with a total of 4-6 hrs per week.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • A valid teaching certificate.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with administrators, principals, teachers, and parents.
  • Knowledgeable of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards.
  • A valid state-issued ID and/or driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass Level II background screening.

Job Summary:

The Afterschool Teacher role works under general supervision to assist the Afterschool program in implementing workforce development initiatives. This position interprets the curriculum and ensures instruction aligns with the curriculum goals and DCPS standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Helping students prepare for standardized testing.
  • Creation of lesson plans and implementation of the UFLI curriculum with the students.
  • Tracking the academic performance of students for signs of progress.
  • Provide mentor support to students.
  • Create positive relationships with school staff, Program Manager, Enrichment staff, and all CIS staff.
  • Meet regularly with the Program Manager and team to determine areas of need.
  • Meeting with the Program Manager to discuss the goals and needs of students in the program.
  • Coordinating and administering education plans for the students.
  • Accomplishes students ' needs by developing, monitoring, and evaluating pre- and post-surveys to track academic and workforce development progress.
  • Admits new students by reviewing applications and conducting orientations.
  • Establishes programs by setting monthly schedules and routines, coordinating provided services, and arranging resources, including supplies, guest speakers, and teachers/instructors.
  • Monitors students by verifying student attendance, observing and evaluating responses (virtually), and verifying student ID numbers.
  • Maintains records by submitting monthly attendance, events, and progress in SAMIS.
  • Improves staff competence by balancing work requirements with learning opportunities.
  • Meets budget by monitoring expenses and implementing cost-saving actions.
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends, compiling statistics, and completing grant deliverables.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Assistant Director of Case Management.

Work Environment: This position requires an individual who can work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with numerous distractions. Supervision of students is an integral part of our work. The Program Manager must be able to plan and implement activities both in person and virtually, utilizing various resources and tools. Safety is of the utmost importance; thus, planning and preparing are paramount. The duties may frequently require activities outside in varying weather conditions; employees may be exposed to sunny, wet, humid, or other conditions beyond their immediate control.
