Job Description:
The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Officials & Scorekeepers to join our energetic team and move Gators toward lifelong wellbeing. Officials & Scorekeepers serve the department by officiating Intramural Sports contests across one or multiple sports, enforcing RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction, and developing professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests.
Successful candidates will begin work at the start of the Fall 2026.

RecSports Team Member Responsibilities
  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests
  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of RecSports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador
  • Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding RecSports facilities
  • Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction
  • Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures
  • All RecSports employees are expected to abide by the RecSports Student Staff Code of Conduct that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors

RecSports Fall Kick-Off 2026: Tuesday, August 18
  • Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our RecSports team. All RecSports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time.
  • Fall Kick-Off is scheduled for August 18, 2026. Please mark your calendars as this is mandatory for all-staff! In addition, please hold your calendars for August 12-18, 2026 for mandatory unit-specific trainings.

Unit Specific Job Responsibilities
Official:
  • Enforce sport rules during competition
  • Communicate with Scorekeepers and Supervisors as necessary to facilitate game contests in an efficient and effective manner
  • Carry out responsibilities at the following Intramural Sports contests:
    • Fall - 7v7 Flag Football, Softball, 3v3 Basketball, Indoor Volleyball, Indoor Soccer
    • Spring - 5v5 Basketball, Softball, 4v4 Flag Football, Outdoor Soccer
    • Summer - 5v5 Basketball, Softball, Indoor Soccer, Co-Rec Kickball
    • Officials/Umpires are hired for specific sports and can be hired to work multiple sports

Scorekeeper:
  • Document the score and general game statistics to ensure equitable and fair play
  • Communicate with Officials and Supervisors as necessary to facilitate game contests in an efficient and effective manner
  • Carry out responsibilities at the following Intramural Sports contests:
    • Fall - Flag Football and Softball
    • Spring/Summer - 5v5 Basketball and Softball

Expected Salary:
$14.25 per hour
Required Qualifications:
Requirements/Qualifications
  • University of Florida student
  • Minimal experience required however a basic knowledge of sports is desired
  • Training sessions are conducted to provide officials with officiating techniques
  • Complete and maintain UF online certifications in GET803, OOC101, PRV802, ITT102, GET811

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
