Posting Summary
Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part Time Staff Nurse for the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center, located in Avenel, NJ. The UCHC Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus; works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment; frequently functions guided by nursing protocols; and functions as a team leader as assigned.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmatepatient including adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) and their family within the framework established by the correctional system.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
  • Attends appropriate in-services and continuing education offerings to obtain and maintain necessary skills.
  • Participates in offering education to inmates, security officers and other members of the health care team.
  • Participates in in-service meetings and educational programs either as attendee or as a teacher, as arranged and approved by supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey

Certifications/Licenses
  • CPR Certification.
  • RN license in New Jersey
  • Valid Driver's License is required. Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.

Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
