Job description

The position will report to the Executive Director of the Office of Grant Development and collaborate with Cancer Center leadership, faculty, and staff across UC Davis. This position will use their extensive experience preparing scientific grant proposals, particularly to the National Cancer Institute and other NIH Institutes as appropriate. Strong scientific writing and editing skills are required, as well as the ability to effectively work in a team environment and manage complex projects. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
  • Advanced degree in Biology, Molecular Oncology, or related fields and/or equivalent education/training
  • Extensive years of experience preparing scientific grant proposals for cancer-focused federal (with an emphasis on the National Cancer Institute), state, and private organizations.
  • Advanced level scientific writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge of federal grant application procedures, formats, guidelines, and requirements.
  • Skills working with large amounts of complex technical information.
  • Skills producing accurate and persuasive text and figures for presentations.
  • Skills conceptualizing and developing new research, research infrastructure, and training initiatives.
  • Knowledge and skills working with relevant computer/software system and applications, including MS Windows/Mac OS, MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), web browser applications and e-mail applications.

The University of California, Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCDCCC) is designated by the National Cancer Institute, and an Organized Research Unit (ORU) under the Office of Research. The Cancer Center is a clinical and research enterprise consisting of over 250 faculty members from the Davis, Sacramento, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory campuses with research funding totaling over $61M.
Department Specific Job Scope
This position will play a key role in enhancing the basic, translational, clinical and population research activities of the UCDCCC, and in enhancing the center's participation in major research initiatives identified by granting agencies as national priorities. The incumbent will assume the lead responsibility in grant writing and preparation, as well as coordinating the contributions of other participating faculty and staff.
