Summary of Job Duties:The Motor Coach Operator is responsible for operating UAPB Motor Coaches and driving cross-country (southeast region) to transport UAPB students faculty and staff. This position is governed by state and federal laws and UAPB policy.
Qualifications:

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS An Operator drives the motor coach safely, arrives at pickup location at assigned times, drives to the point of destination in a safe manner according to the schedule, adheres to traffic laws and DOT regulations, follows proper procedures when arriving at a location, maintains awareness of driving conditions and scans environment for possible safety hazards.

Reviews the prior day's Driver Vehicle Inspection Report and conducts a comprehensive pre-trip inspection and post-trip inspection of the motor coach to ensure safe operating conditions.

Inspects the inside and outside of the motor coach and brake system following a checklist, documents mechanical malfunctions or other motor coach problems on the proper form, verbally notifies the mechanic or supervisor of mechanical malfunctions if unable to safely operate the vehicle, receives notification from mechanic of action to take, and determines if the motor coach is safe for operation.

Boards and deboards passengers, provide passenger pretrip safety announcements, and load passenger baggage into baggage compartment using proper lifting techniques.

Responsible for enforcing the rules of the motor coach; make determination of whether incidents on the motor coach require unscheduled stops or the notification of law enforcement and consider welfare of all passengers.

Passenger questions and respond to requests for assistance.

Must provide positive customer service to passengers, act in a friendly and courteous manner and follow correct routes.

Completes all required documentation and maintains driver logs according to DOT regulations and UAPB Policies.

Coordinates any special requirements or considerations necessary for making the trip with appropriate personnel.

Maintains records of bus use and travel logs, and prepares reports of operations.

Attends driving courses as needed and/or required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Maintains professional dress and grooming (uniforms will be provided).

Additional Information:

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS Ability to drive for periods up to 10 hours at a time. Ability to communicate in oral and written form. Skill in commercial bus or truck driving.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus 3-5 years of experience in cross-country commercial driving.

CDL Class B or Class A

Passenger Endorsement

Must provide valid documentation of a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examination.

Salary Information:

12.39 - 24.34 USD Hourly
