Typescript Junior Developer information

What does a Typescript junior developer do?

A TypeScript Junior Developer is an entry-level programmer who specializes in using TypeScript, a strongly typed programming language that builds on JavaScript. Their main responsibilities include writing and maintaining code, debugging applications, and collaborating with other developers to build web or server-side applications. They often work under the guidance of more experienced developers to learn best practices and improve code quality. TypeScript Junior Developers contribute to making software more reliable and scalable by leveraging TypeScript's features.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Typescript junior developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Typescript Junior Developer, you need a solid understanding of JavaScript, TypeScript, and basic web development concepts, often supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, frameworks such as React or Angular, and tools like Node.js and Visual Studio Code is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn make candidates stand out in this position. These skills and qualities are crucial for writing reliable, maintainable code and adapting to evolving project requirements in a collaborative environment.

What are some typical challenges faced by a Typescript junior developer when working on cross-functional teams?

As a Typescript Junior Developer, you may often collaborate with back-end developers, designers, and QA testers. One common challenge is ensuring consistent code quality and type safety when integrating with legacy JavaScript code or third-party APIs. Additionally, adapting to different coding styles and workflows used by more experienced team members can require patience and strong communication skills. However, these challenges provide valuable learning opportunities and help you quickly build technical and collaborative expertise.

This role collaborates closely with teammates to understand business requirements, contribute to architectural discussions, and deliver scalable, resilient, and secure systems. As part of a corporate wide AI transformation initiative, this role will also incorporate the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools to streamline coding, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation activities across the SDLC.

    • Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis by combining traditional debugging techniques with AI-guided investigation to accelerate discovery and remediation.
    • Contribute to the modernization of legacy components through refactoring, migration planning, and use of AI tools to analyze existing patterns and propose alternatives.
    • Apply secure coding practices and use AI-enabled scanning or analysis tools to help identify vulnerabilities or improvement opportunities.
    • Participate in identifying software, server, or network bottlenecks by gathering diagnostics and evaluating potential fixes, including the use of AI tools to explore optimization options.

    • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 4 years of experience in a related field, or equivalent combinations such as a master's degree and up to 2 years of experience, or 8 years of experience with no degree.
    • Experience in developing with TypeScript, Java, Node.js, React.
    • Hands-on experience developing software using modern programming languages, frameworks, and cloud technologies.
    • Ability to evaluate technical requirements, follow architectural patterns, and contribute to maintainable and scalable implementations.
    • Skilled in building partnerships, driving innovation, focusing on execution, and striving for excellence in engineering work.
    • Communicate and explain engineering concepts and solutions to team members with less technical experience

Senior-Software Level Expectations
    • Mentorship & Leadership: Provide technical mentorship on design patterns, code quality, and career growth.
    • Ownership & Initiative: Take full ownership of features or systems; proactively identify and solve problems.
    • Continuous Learning: Stay up to date with advancements in cloud computing, DevOps, AI, and software best practices.
    • Adaptability: Thrive in dynamic environments and pivot easily when priorities shift.
    • Collaboration & Communication: Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Decision-Making: Influence architectural decisions and contribute to the long-term technical strategy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with or strong familiarity developing REST APIs using an AWS serverless framework.
  • AWS certifications (Developer, Solutions Architect, or DevOps) highly preferred.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted coding tools (GitHub Copilot, CodeWhisperer, ClaudeCode, etc.), especially in production or experimentation contexts.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading small development initiatives.
