Role Overview

Ownwell is seeking a Texas-licensed ready Mortgage Loan Officer to originate residential mortgage loans under Ownwell's Texas Mortgage Broker License. You will work directly with warm inbound customers from our existing homeowner base and referral partners, guiding borrowers through refinance and purchase transactions while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

This role is ideal for a high-integrity, consultative originator who wants to help build and modernize the mortgage experience through technology and data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Originate residential mortgage loans (refinance and purchase) in Texas
  • Work inbound leads from Ownwell's homeowner platform and partner channels
  • Guide borrowers through the full loan lifecycle: pre-qualification application processing closing
  • Collect and review borrower documentation (income, assets, credit, property)
  • Ensure compliance with Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending (SML) and NMLS regulations
  • Maintain accurate loan files and CRM documentation
  • Coordinate with processors, underwriters, title companies, and real estate partners
  • Educate customers on loan options, rates, fees, and closing costs
  • Meet production, quality, and customer satisfaction targets
Licensing & Compliance Requirements
  • Must hold an active Texas Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) license through NMLS with at least 2 years of experience 
  • Will be sponsored under Ownwell's Texas Mortgage Broker License
  • Maintain continuing education annually
  • Maintain good standing with Texas SML and NMLS
Required Qualifications
  • Must hold an active Texas Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) license with a minimum of 2 years of continuous licensing and origination experience
  • Strong understanding of mortgage products (conventional, FHA, VA, jumbo)
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
  • High attention to compliance, documentation, and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple active loan files simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a tech-enabled, fast-moving startup environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Texas MLO license (NMLS)
  • 2+ years mortgage origination experience
  • Experience with refinance pipelines
  • Prior experience working inbound or fintech-driven leads
  • Familiarity with mortgage CRMs and LOS platforms is preferred (Encompass, Blend, Floify, etc.)
