Job description

The Production Assistant works within established Production Department guidelines to support the daily operations of the station. This position provides administrative and clerical support to the Production Department while assisting with television production activities, including camera operation, graphics creation, editing, news teases, and broadcast preparation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Administrative Support

  • Performs clerical and administrative functions for the Production Department.
  • Prepares forms, reports, records, and other documents using computer software and department systems.
  • Maintains files, logs, and business records.
  • Corresponds with customers, vendors, and coworkers to answer inquiries, coordinate events, and resolve issues.
  • Assists with programming schedules and documentation.
  • Completes and maintains required station logs and records.

Production Support

  • Composes and frames camera shots, applying technical aspects of lighting, lenses, and camera settings to achieve desired visual effects.
  • Adjusts camera positions, focus, exposure, and lighting as directed.
  • Operates remote cameras during live broadcasts and special productions.
  • Confers with directors, producers, and crew members regarding camera movements, shot sequences, lighting requirements, and desired production effects.
  • Sets up, tests, cleans, maintains, and performs minor troubleshooting of cameras and related production equipment.
  • Assists with studio preparation and production execution.
  • Assists Creative Producer with commercial shoots in the field as needed.

Graphics & Editing

  • Produces and updates graphics for newscasts and other station programming.
  • Edits video content for news, promotions, and special projects.
  • Assists in preparing content for broadcast and digital platforms.

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum one year of experience in clerical support, administrative assistance, television production, media operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of television production equipment and broadcast operations preferred.
  • Experience with video editing software and graphics systems preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
