Job description

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Horticulture the Manager, Horticulture is responsible for the strategic oversight, maintenance, and enhancement of the resort's exterior grounds, landscaping, seasonal decor, and floral displays, ensuring an aesthetically pleasing and safe environment. Develop and execute plans for landscape sustainability, seasonal transformations, and exterior aesthetics, maintenance and repairs, while maintaining high standards of guest experience in a hospitality-driven setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leads the planning, design, and execution of landscape maintenance, seasonal decor, and floral installations, ensuring proper preventative maintenance of all exterior grounds, including parking areas, pathways, and resort perimeters. Implement sustainable horticulture practices that align with environmental and brand guidelines, conduct regular inspections to ensure adherence to safety and aesthetic standards, and manage and upkeep all seasonal and promotional displays throughout the resort.
2. Manages budgets for landscape projects, groundskeeping, exterior maintenance, seasonal decor, and floral arrangements while optimizing resources. Ensure cost-effective procurement and inventory control of plants, materials, and decor elements. Maintain financial records and report on expenditures, justifying budget needs
3. Ensures all horticulture and exterior maintenance work complies with OSHA, ADA, and resort brand standards. Communicate effectively with leadership, vendors, and team members to ensure seamless execution of projects. Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, project progress, and compliance adherence.
4. Communicates important matters involving personnel, facilities, exterior maintenance, and groundskeeping to the Horticulture Senior Manager in a timely manner. Collaborate with resort management on special events requiring horticulture and seasonal decor. Stay updated on industry trends in horticulture, exterior decor, and sustainable landscaping. Handle emergency situations such as storm damage or urgent repairs.
5. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Facilities management, Environmental Science, hospitality or a related field required.
  • Minimum (3) years of progress experience in horticulture, exterior maintenance, seasonal decor, groundskeeping, floral or a similar role, preferably in a hospitality setting required.
  • Minimum three (3) years' supervisory and/or senior level experience required.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
  • Experience in methods and techniques of ground maintenance, horticulture, floral and interior design.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills across multiple disciplines.
  • expertise in landscape design, project management, interior design, and plant maintenance.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices, irrigation, and exterior maintenance.
  • Budget management skills with the ability to forecast costs and optimize spending.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate across departments, vendors, and executive leadership.
  • Proficiency in task management systems (e.g., HOTSOS) and compliance documentation.
  • Must be able to follow safety guidelines when using required chemicals, equipment, tools, and techniques while performing job duties.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • Select One of the Following for Driving Responsibilities: Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.

  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties.
  • Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
