Position summary:

The responsibility of the Tufting Fixer is to maintain and repair all tufting machines as needed and assist with burn-ins of all tufters. The machines must be repaired on a timely basis and be set up to produce carpet as the run schedule requires.

Educational requirements:

High school diploma or GED required.

Skills and experience:

  • 2-5 years experience as a Tufting Operator preferred,

  • 2-5 years work experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • 2-5 years experience in a mechanical related field preferred.

  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.

  • Knowledge of Lock Out, Tag Out procedures.

Essential duties:

  • Insure that each machine is mechanically set up to produce first quality carpet.

  • Insure that repairs are made on a timely basis.

  • Be very familiar with the Tag Lock Out procedures.

  • Always store tools in their proper places.

  • Communicate with machine operators when making repairs so as to efficiently insure proper and complete repair of machine.

  • Record required information on each machine's log book as necessary.

  • Perform each style change; change out slats as necessary.

  • After each style change, do a weight check on that style.

  • Change out tufting needles and loopers as needed.

  • Troubleshoot problems with the machines when informed by the operators of defects in carpet, or when the machines stop running and the operators don't know why.

  • Check belts, chains, sprockets, slats and gears daily for wear and change them out as needed.

  • Be familiar with the way each tufter runs and have the ability to identify specific problems.

  • Replace needles and loopers as needed.

  • Assist with breaks and run machines when needed.

  • Oil and grease tufters on schedule.

  • Check oil supply in oil wells and maintain levels.

  • Assist with backing changes.

  • Assist with Burn-ins.

  • Deposit all yarn and carpet scrap into specific containers for recycling.

  • Maintain a daily log of production.

  • Refer to Fixer Work Instructions for further instructions on the processes of the duties outlined here.

  • Maintain good housekeeping.

  • Comply with all safety rules.

  • Comply with environmental regulations.

  • Be aware of the departmental Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and where they are located.

  • Ensure ISO procedures are followed.

  • Understand and support Interface commitment to sustainability.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical demands:

Occassional 12 hour shifts.

Work environment:

Non-climate controlled manufacturing environment.
