Supplier Quality and Development Engineer II Company Overview

Role Overview

The Supplier Quality and Development Engineer utilizes QA/QC principles to maintain high capacity utilization and optimize manufacturing and service operations, ensuring products and services meet customer requirements. This position is responsible for managing, developing, and reporting on quality systems and processes within the supply base in support of ISO9001:2015 quality system requirements and vendor qualifications and audits. The role supports all business units under the MPWA Power Generation organization.


Key Responsibilities
  • Understand quality systems as established from industry-specific codes and standards; apply inspection and test methods to determine product/service conformance
  • Manage suppliers through ISO9001:2015 requirements as a minimum
  • Support and lead supplier development and ensure documentation supports activities
  • Provide ongoing support to supplier's quality, cost, and delivery objectives
  • Proactively lead problem-solving activities for supplier issues
  • Conduct supplier process/product assessments on a scheduled routine to provide ongoing quality assurance and analyze supplier capability
  • Provide training or identify training needs within the supply base to ensure supplier success
  • Monitor supplier part/service qualification and certification process, providing regular updates to project teams
  • Review and approve all necessary documentation for initial sample submissions and production data verification
  • Initiate supplier process/product improvements and cost reductions
  • Collect and analyze data to eliminate redundant or unnecessary processes and improve existing processes; identify and interpret trends in data, and apply simple SPC techniques to acquire data
  • Support the establishment of quality-related training programs and techniques
  • Review customer and supplier inspection and test plans to assure proper witness/hold points are injected and proper tests are detailed
  • Generate quality-related procedures and specifications to support the MPWA Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Assist in maintaining databases and coordinating the process of issuing, monitoring, and closing open NCRs/CARs/PARs
  • Assist management to create and report on metrics
  • Perform other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills & Education

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:


Bachelor degree (BS/BA) from four-year college or university; at least three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a manufacturing or service environment. Engineering degree preferred.

Specific education and training in Quality disciplines including: ISO9000, TS-16949, and/or QS-9000. Also training in Lean/Continuous Improvement, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, DOE, and SPC. Supplier Quality experience is preferred.

Proficient in blueprint reading and part requirements.

Experience in measurement techniques used in a manufacturing and repair environment.

Six Sigma / Lean Manufacturing experience desirable.

This position requires an excellent communicator who can lead co-workers at various levels.

Strong oral and written communication skills, including excellent presentation skills.

Must be able and willing to work extended hours as required (including weekends).

Mathematical Skills:


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability:


Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:


Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet, and word processing software, electronic mail, statistical software, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.

Certifications:


The position requires certification as a Certified Quality Engineer or Lead Certified Quality Auditor within one year of employment.


Physical Demands & Work Environment

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and talk and/or hear. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Eye and hearing protection may be recommended and/or required in some areas.
