Job description

Job Type
Full-time
Description
*This role will travel on average within 1-1.5 hours of Campbellsport, WI market daily to job sites and sometimes up in the northern Wrightstown, WI market based on business needs. A company vehicle will be provided.*
The Drexel Way:
We don't just sell lumber; we Supply. Happiness. Drexel is Team Member-owned and community-driven. With six retail hubs and three manufacturing plants across Wisconsin, we've been a Top Workplace every year since 2011. Why? Because we hire for heart and train for skill. When you join Team Blue, you aren't just a team member-you're an owner.
The Mission:
As a Component Field Specialist, your primary objective is to be the boots-on-the-ground technical bridge between site contractors, our sales team (Quarterbacks), and the truss design team. You are responsible for conducting site measurements, troubleshooting framing issues, resolving floor performance complaints, demonstrating proper truss bracing, and defending margins by mitigating jobsite backcharges. As the regional technical expert in our structural component engine, you ensure that our commitment to local builders is executed flawlessly at the jobsite, while feeding field insights back to design and plant operations.
Defining the Role:
  • Field Support & Site Audits: Serve as the regional specialist for Quarterbacks (QBs) on complex structural questions; conduct proactive jobsite visits to inspect installed truss and engineered wood products.
  • On-Site Measurement & Remodel Intake: Perform precise field measurements for complex additions and remodels, gathering accurate structural data to pass to the Truss Design team for first-time buildability.
  • Builder Education & Bracing Demos: Conduct hands-on, on-site demonstrations for framing crews on proper BCSI temporary and permanent truss bracing techniques to drive field safety and structural compliance.
  • QC Diagnostics & Floor Performance: Respond rapidly to site complaints regarding fitment or layout discrepancies. Investigate floor deflection, bounce, or squeaks to diagnose technical root causes and deliver actionable remediation.
  • Back charge Mitigation: Lead field incident investigations to eliminate or minimize financial claims. Document clear root causes (site modifications vs. manufacturing variations vs. design errors) and log details in the Category Manager's Back Charge and Incident logs.
  • Operational Synergy & Plant Presence: Spend a minimum of 1 day per week at the Wrightstown manufacturing facility to maintain visibility into plant operations, component staging, and quality control.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Participate in weekly leadership tactical meetings to share regional field trends, plant quality observations, and real-world feedback to educate design teams and QBs.
  • Territory Coverage: Regional assignment (Central/Southern Region) balancing jobsite travel, customer interactions, and a mandatory minimum of 1 day per week on-site at the local Wrightstown, WI manufacturing facility.
  • Structural & Field Diagnostics: Proven ability to evaluate structural load paths, analyze floor truss deflection/performance complaints, and troubleshoot live framing challenges on-site.
  • Measurement Precision: Hands-on experience taking precise field measurements for complex remodels and additions.
  • Conflict Resolution: Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to navigate high-stakes jobsite complaints, investigate root causes, and mitigate backcharge exposure.
  • Technical Communication: Ability to communicate technical framing standards effortlessly across framers, designers, QBs, and plant personne
What Success Looks Like:
Performance is measured by your direct impact on our regional structural quality, builder confidence, and margin preservation:
  • Back charge Mitigation Rate: Financial reduction of field incident claims and backcharge dollars incurred across your assigned region.
  • First-Time Measurement Accuracy: Percentage of additions and remodels measured that proceed through design and framing with zero field fitment discrepancies.
  • Site Response & Resolution Velocity: Average turnaround time from QB issue notification to on-site inspection and actionable resolution plan.
The Drexel Advantage: The Wealth-Builder (Ownership)
  • ESOP Shares: We don't just work here; we own the place. You'll earn a real stake in the company's success.
  • Profit Sharing: When Drexel wins, our team wins.
  • 401k: A solid foundation for your long-term retirement goals.
Health & Well-Being
  • Comprehensive Coverage: Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance to keep you and your family "weather-proof."
  • Fitness Reimbursements: Annual funds dedicated to your physical health and family activities.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Confidential support when life gets complex.
Life & Legacy
  • Immediate Paid Time Off: Start with Holiday and Vacation pay from day one.
  • Scholarship Program: We're invested in the next generation-educational support for the children of our team members.
  • Annual Charity Match: We'll double your impact on the causes you care about most.
The "Drexel" Lifestyle
  • Birthday PTO: A paid day off to celebrate you.
  • Product Discounts: Special pricing on the high-quality materials we sell.
  • Plus More: A constant stream of "fun little perks" that make the yard a great place to be.
