Job description

Role Summary:
The Truss Design Manager is responsible for the success of the design team. This will include achieving and maintaining design goals and department objectives while working with the sales and truss production teams to meet demand.
Scope of the Position:
This position is responsible for the overall success of a truss design department consisting of approximately 9+ employees. Reporting directly to the Truss Design Manager will be the administrative assistants, in house designers and remote designers.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities expected of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Ensure the department is staffed with qualified and engaged personnel
  • Train and coach staff to hit their maximum potential
  • Provide and maintain appropriate department lead times as set/approved by management
  • Ability to track and communicate key performance indicators to management
  • Manage day to day design department resources including scheduling designs
  • Review and optimize designs for most efficient use of materials, equipment and manpower.
  • Investigate preliminary information and data necessary to generate designs.
  • Utilize knowledge of various computer software, AutoCad, Alpine, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
  • Interact with the sales department regarding the scope of work and to acquire and disseminate information needed in order to provide quality truss design drawings that are within bid parameters.
  • Provide backup assistance to builders by answering general questions and reconciling any problems in the condition of the delivered product.
  • Jobsite repairs, inspections as necessary.
  • Design work required
  • Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Ability to multitask and work within strict time frames.

Position Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to provide clear task assignments, create a shared understanding of strategic direction, promote a sense of purpose and inspire motivation
  • Possess a strong customer orientation
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to read blueprints and visualize details in three dimensions.
  • Knowledge of field requirements and truss production requirements.
  • Understand code requirements and loading conditions as they relate to truss design.
  • Knowledge of equipment used in plant and how to produce efficient designs for same.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in management or operations or trade degree in related field preferred
  • 5+ years design experience; truss design management experience a plus
  • Alpine Truss Software experience preferred

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical Work Requirements - Light: exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally
  • Sit/Stand frequently
  • Occasional automotive travel to job sites and work locations

You will be expected to follow any other job related instructions and to perform other job related duties as requested by management.
