Job Description

This contract-to-hire role offers the opportunity to operate TRUMPF laser cutting equipment in a small, highly collaborative fabrication shop. You will review work orders and blueprints, run laser cutting machinery, and ensure parts meet precise specifications while maintaining a safe and organized work area.

Responsibilities

  • Review work orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, and production schedules to understand job requirements and priorities.
  • Load steel sheets onto TRUMPF laser cutting equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Operate laser cutting machinery to produce parts according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Remove completed parts from skeletons and stack finished material in an organized manner.
  • Use roller tables and manual material handling techniques to move steel throughout the production process.
  • Assist with pushing and pulling material weighing up to 217 lbs with another operator when required.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and verify dimensions against prints and specifications.
  • Use measuring tools including tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to confirm part accuracy.
  • Complete production paperwork and ERP documentation accurately and legibly.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, programmers, and teammates regarding production needs, issues, and quality concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on processes, equipment, and workflow.

Essential Skills

  • 1+ year of laser operator experience, preferably operating TRUMPF laser equipment.
  • Proficiency in laser operation, including setup, cutting, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and manufacturing work orders.
  • Experience using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and height gauges.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
  • Strong basic math skills to verify dimensions, quantities, and tolerances.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
  • Ability to accurately complete production paperwork and ERP documentation.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, programmers, and teammates.
  • Consistent adherence to safety procedures and safe material-handling practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with TRUMPF laser cutting systems in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a small-shop or job-shop setting where flexibility and teamwork are essential.
  • Comfort working with heavy materials and using roller tables and other manual material-handling tools.
  • Willingness to learn advanced fabrication equipment and processes over time.
  • Reliability and strong attendance, with interest in attendance incentive programs.
