Job Description :
As a brewer at Tröegs, you will be operating our 100-barrel and 17-barrel brewing systems and handling a variety of cellar tasks while maintaining an impeccable eye to detail and high level of work area cleanliness. As part of a three-shift rotating team, this job requires a strong emphasis on communication and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Upon joining the team, you will be trained in Brewhouse and Cellar including: milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, hop additions, whirlpool, wort cooling, yeast pitching, filtration, transfers, dry-hopping, fruit additions, parts and hose maintenance, filling firkins. [TM3] In addition, the brewer is responsible for pre- and post-cleaning and sanitation of all transfer lines and vessels. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with prior brewing experience and/or formal brewing education who is comfortable working a 24-hour rotating shift while supporting the policies, goals and safety practices of Tröegs Brewing Company.
Daily Duties, Functions, Responsibilities :
  • Collaborate with brewing team to achieve desired quality and production targets.
  • Complete assigned tasks in accordance with company SOPs.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Keep accurate inventory and quality management of raw materials and chemicals.
  • Periodic handling of hazardous chemicals.
  • Keep accurate daily production records per company and Federal Requirements.
  • Continually maintain all beer production areas including equipment - ( mill room, brewhouse, fermentation, and filtration, spent grain area, bulk grain and grain storage area, as well as all walkways and driveways around or leading to brewhouse and cellar).
  • Assist with packaging and kegging during high-volume production periods.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules to maintain a clean working environment.
  • Attend and participate in shift meetings so all team members are aware of daily status.

Skills and attributes necessary for this position :
  • Professional brewing experience OR formal brewing education REQUIRED.
  • The ability to work well independently and with a team (often in close physical proximity).
  • Ability to routinely and repetitively lift 55lbs 60" high - occasionally 170 lbs.
  • Forklift certification required, will train.
  • Ability to get to work on time to keep a production schedule.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be computer literate, and have familiarity with MS Word and Excel.

Work Environment :
Tröegs Brewing Company is a climate-controlled brewing and packaging facility. The following is a representative list of what a co-worker might encounter during a typical workday:

Co-workers regularly handle hazardous materials and regularly encounter broken glass and wet floors while working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
Work Schedule :
  • 40-hour work week with occasional overtime. Weekend work required.
  • Four-week rotational shift:
    • First shift: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
    • Second shift: 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm
    • Third shift: 11:00 pm - 7:30 am
