Location: Minneapolis, MN (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite per week)

We are seeking an Enterprise Application & Data Architect to shape enterprise-wide technology strategy, drive architectural governance, and enable scalable, data-driven innovation.

This role blends strategic influence with hands-on technical leadership, working across application, data, and integration domains to ensure solutions align with business priorities and enterprise standards.

Team & Environment

  • Reports to the Director of IT Enterprise Architecture

Your Role & Responsibilities

Enterprise Architecture & Governance

  • Define and maintain enterprise architecture standards, policies, and reference architectures
  • Participate in and guide architecture review processes to ensure alignment with enterprise standards
  • Provide architectural direction and decision guidance for major technology initiatives

Business Alignment & Strategy

  • Lead business capability discovery and translate business strategy into architectural direction
  • Partner with stakeholders to shape roadmaps, investments, and technology planning cycles
  • Ensure architecture is embedded early in business and initiative planning

Application & Engineering Architecture

  • Guide application architecture decisions including system design, APIs, data models, and patterns
  • Influence engineering practices including framework selection, CI/CD pipelines, and testing strategies
  • Promote clean architecture, observability, and maintainability across delivery teams

Enterprise Data Architecture & DataOps

  • Lead design and governance of enterprise data platforms (warehouse, lake, lakehouse)
  • Define standards for data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration (batch and streaming)
  • Establish DataOps practices including CI/CD for data, observability, and automated quality controls
  • Define and enforce data governance standards, including data quality, lineage, and governed access

Delivery Oversight & Validation

  • Actively validate that solutions in delivery align with architectural standards and business intent
  • Provide embedded architectural guidance to Agile/SAFe teams throughout delivery lifecycle

Portfolio Rationalization & Optimization

  • Identify technical debt, architectural risks, and opportunities for system modernization
  • Lead enterprise portfolio rationalization efforts to reduce complexity and improve efficiency

Skills & Experience You Should Possess

  • 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience
  • 4+ years in enterprise or solution architecture roles
  • 2+ years of recent DataOps experience
  • 4+ years of project or initiative leadership experience
  • Strong programming expertise (Python, Java, C#, TypeScript) and full-stack system design
  • Expert-level SQL and deep experience in database technologies and data modeling
  • Experience designing and deploying production-grade systems
  • Strong understanding of application, data, integration, and enterprise architecture domains
  • Hands-on experience influencing engineering practices and development lifecycles
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to enhance development workflows
  • Strong communication skills with ability to influence across technical and business stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare IT environments (payer, provider, or health system)
  • Experience with cloud-based DataOps platforms, especially in Azure
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Azure Synapse, Databricks, Fabric, dbt, or Apache Spark
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Apache Atlas)
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards (HIPAA, HL7, FHIR, CMS interoperability rules)
  • Experience working within Agile or SAFe environments with embedded architecture support

Education & Certifications You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Advanced certifications in cloud, data, or architecture domains are a plus

  • Competitive Compensation – You choose the model that works best for you, both with company-sponsored benefits! $143,000–$148,000 annually or $89–$92 per hour. Final compensation is determined based on skill alignment, years of experience, and fair, market-based rates by geography.
