GENERAL DEFINITION: This position is responsible for conducting outreach to prospective students and community partners, assisting with admissions and enrollment processes, and providing academic and student support advising to current and prospective students. The Recruiter/Advisor serves as a key point of contact between the College and its students, families, schools, and community organizations, helping advance the College's mission, values, and commitment to culturally grounded higher education.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Services.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: No supervisory responsibilities.
DUTIES:
- Recruitment and Outreach, and Enrollment Support.
- Promote ATC's mission, academic programs, student services, and enrollment opportunities to prospective students, families, and community stakeholders.
- Conduct outreach activities including school visits, community events, campus tours, presentations and college fairs.
- Organize and participate in open houses, orientation programs, and workshops to engage prospective students.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with local schools, Tribal programs, community organizations, and other partners to strengthen recruitment networks.
- Help plan, organize, and implement recruitment campaigns, informational materials, student events, and outreach strategies.
- Assist prospective students with admissions, registration, financial aid, orientation, and other enrollment related processes.
- Represent A:shiwi Tribal College in a professional manner at on and off campus events.
- Assist in the development and implementation of recruitment strategies aligned with institutional goals.
- Advising and Student Success Support
- Provide advice and support to current and prospective students regarding academic planning, course selection, college policies and procedures, and available student support resources.
- Assist students in identifying educational goals, developing academic plans, and navigating barriers to enrollment, persistence, and completion.
- Serve at a primary point of contact for students and families, offering guidance and referrals to appropriate campus services.
- Monitor student progress and follow up with students as needed to encourage retention, persistence, and timely completion of academic requirements.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student success initiatives, orientation programming, retention activities, and other student-centered services.
- Create and distribute enrollment materials (brochures, emails, website content) and promote recruitment campaigns.
- Administrative, Reporting, and Institutional Support.
- Track recruitment activities, compile student data, and analyze trends to refine recruitment strategies.
- Maintain accurate recruitment, advising, and student contact records in accordance with ATC procedures and applicable confidentiality requirements.
- Prepare reports, summaries, and related documentation concerning recruitment efforts, advising activities, and student engagement outcomes.
- Participate in institutional committees, meetings, professional development, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Support institutional goals, accreditation expectations, and compliance requirements related to enrollment management and student services.
- Provide academic advising to new and continuing students, supporting course selection, degree planning, and goal setting.
- Assist students in navigating academic challenges and connecting with campus resources and support services.
- Monitor student progress and engage in proactive outreach to promote persistence and retention.
- Maintain accurate advising and recruitment records in student information systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in institutional committees, meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts within enrollment management and student services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of principles and practices of student recruitment, academic advising, and student support services. Knowledge of college admissions, enrollment, registration, and financial aid processes. Knowledge of Challenges and opportunities affecting Tribal, rural, first-generation, and nontraditional students. Knowledge of student records practices, confidentiality requirements, and professional boundaries in working with students. Knowledge of office procedures, recordkeeping systems, and standard computer applications used in higher education settings. Knowledge of the mission of Tribal colleges and the importance of culturally responsive and community-centered education. Skilled in communicating effectively both orally and in writing. Skilled in building rapport with students, families, community members, and institutional partners. Skilled in public speaking, presenting information, and conducting outreach in individual and group settings. Skilled in organizing work, maintaining records, and managing multiple tasks and deadlines. Skilled in using computers, databases, spreadsheets, email, virtual meeting platforms, and student information systems. Ability to recruit, advise, and support students in a professional, respectful, and culturally responsive manner. Ability to interpret and explain College programs, requirements, policies, and procedures clearly and accurately. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a developing institutional environment. Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear reports and correspondence. Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in working with student information. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for A:shiwi cultural values, community priorities, and the mission of the College. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, Tribal leadership, community organizations, and the public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's degree (Preferred) in Education, Counseling, Social Sciences or a related field with two (2) years of experience in recruitment, advising, student services, tribal government, nonprofit organizations, or community outreach are required. Experience in Tribal higher education or working with Native students and communities is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES: Must have a valid New Mexico Driver's License with no DUI/DWI convictions within the past three (3) years. Driving is an essential part of the duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: May require evening or weekend hours to support Board meetings or college events. and travel for recruitment and outreach activities. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a student-centered environment. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, sensitivity to the needs of Tribal communities and first-generation students, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is primarily sedentary and performed in typical office environments. Occasional walking, standing, and lifting of light items may be required.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: The position is subject to pre-employment drug testing. The position is subject to pre-employment background investigation including FBI Fingerprinting.
