Job description

OVERVIEW
The YMCA of the Pikes Peak region is looking for a compassionate and patient Sports Associates to join our Sports program and help us to provide a safe and nurturing environment. The responsibilities of the Sports Associate include performing pre/post game duties to ensure facilities are ready and safe for league play. Applicants should be familiar with the rules and bylaws of the respective sport. Sports Associates provide oversight of league games to maintain fair play and promote good sportsmanship. Candidates must have the ability to quickly evaluate information and make decisions and judgment calls. Applicants must be able to resolve conflicts and stay calm while handling disputes.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Sports Official/Gym Supervisor is accountable for maintaining a safe and orderly environment in the facility being used during sports practices and games, as well as enforcing all of the rules of the sport and those established by the YMCA. The Sports Official/Gym Supervisor will provide quality officiating to sport leagues, instructions to participants, and enforce league rules and YMCA policies. This individual will have the ability to handle coaches, players and parent questions and concerns in a professional manner.

Responsibilities
• Maintain control in facilitates being used at all times
• Give leadership to youth on the playing field
• Develop and maintain communication with the parents, players and coaches
• Enforce all rules for the specific sport, as well as all YMCA rules and philosophies
• Keep current on all schedule changes
• Maintain regular communication with the Sports Director
• Set-up and take down equipment
• Respond to all emergencies in a prompt manner
• Responsible for cleanliness of facility sites
• Complete score sheets and turn them into the Sports Director as required
• Referee all sporting events according to the rules set forth
• Attend all training and meetings relating to the position
• Maintain a courteous, friendly attitude and be a positive role model
