A Tree Groundsman assists tree climbers and arborists with tree care and removal tasks. Their duties include hauling branches, operating equipment like chainsaws and wood chippers, and ensuring job site safety. They also help set up ropes, clear debris, and maintain tools. This role requires physical strength, teamwork, and a strong focus on safety.
As a Tree Groundsman, your daily responsibilities often include preparing and maintaining equipment, clearing debris, assisting climbers with rigging, and ensuring the worksite remains safe and organized. You'll frequently operate machinery like chainsaws and chippers, and may be tasked with traffic control or hauling brush. The role requires close collaboration with arborists and other crew members, which helps the team work efficiently and safely. This hands-on position is an excellent way to gain valuable industry experience, often leading to advancement opportunities such as climbing technician or crew leader roles.

The Groundsman works alongside a 2 to 4-person tree crew assisting in tree removal, tree pruning, stump grinding and wood chipper operations. He/she is responsible for all communication with crew members and the public while climbers are aloft in trees or aerial lift trucks.
