What is a travelling traffic control flagger?

Travelling Traffic Control Flaggers are workers responsible for directing traffic safely around road construction sites or other temporary obstructions. They typically move between different job sites, sometimes over long distances, depending on project needs. Their main duties include setting up warning signs, communicating with construction teams, and ensuring the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and workers. Travelling flaggers need to be attentive, able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and have strong communication skills.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a travelling traffic control flagger?

To thrive as a Travelling Traffic Control Flagger, you need a solid understanding of traffic safety regulations, situational awareness, and often a valid flagger certification or training card. Familiarity with hand signaling devices, two-way radios, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is typically required. Strong communication skills, alertness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential soft skills for this role. These abilities are crucial to ensure the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians in changing and potentially hazardous work zones.

What are some unique challenges faced by travelling traffic control flaggers compared to stationary flaggers?

Travelling Traffic Control Flaggers often work on multiple job sites, sometimes in different towns or regions, which requires adaptability to varying road conditions, weather, and team dynamics.
