Medical Assistant – Surgical Dermatology – Full-Time – Triangle Area

Locations: Cary / Chapel Hill / Sanford, NC
Salary: $20–$25/hour, based on experience
Schedule: Full-Time

A growing, multi-site dermatology practice in the Triangle area is seeking an experienced Full-Time Medical Assistant with strong surgical and procedural experience to join its dermatology team.

We are hiring Medical Assistants to support Mohs and surgical dermatology providers in the Cary and Chapel Hill/Sanford areas. This is a fast-paced, procedure-heavy environment, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys surgical dermatology, high-volume clinic days, and providing hands-on patient care.

Location & Travel Expectations

This posting is being used to recruit for opportunities in both the Cary and Chapel Hill/Sanford areas. Travel expectations vary based on the provider supported:

  • Cary: This position is primarily based in Cary and is not expected to require regular travel between clinic locations.
  • Chapel Hill/Sanford: This position will regularly work between the Chapel Hill and Sanford locations. Approximately two days per week, the Medical Assistant may also be assigned to another practice location based on staffing and patient-care needs.

Candidates should be comfortable with the location and travel expectations associated with the position for which they are selected.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and room patients for Mohs, surgical, and general dermatology appointments
  • Obtain medical histories, update medications and allergies, and accurately document patient information in the EMR
  • Assist providers with dermatologic procedures, including:
    • Mohs surgery
    • Excisions
    • ED&C procedures
    • Nail procedures
    • Biopsies
    • Cryotherapy
    • Incision and drainage
    • Suture removal
    • Sterile dressing application and wound care
  • Set up and break down procedure trays while maintaining proper sterile technique
  • Support efficient patient flow during high-volume surgical clinic days
  • Provide patients with clear education regarding procedures, medications, wound care, and post-operative instructions
  • Perform additional clinical tasks after appropriate training, including injections, phlebotomy, patch testing, and specimen handling
  • Complete pathology and laboratory requisitions and assist with prior authorizations and patient follow-up as needed
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, restock supplies, and assist with inventory and equipment management
  • Work collaboratively with providers and other clinical team members to ensure an excellent patient experience

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting
  • Previous experience supporting surgical or procedure-based specialties
  • Strong EMR/EHR documentation skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain organized in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Flexibility to support longer clinic days when needed
  • For the Chapel Hill/Sanford opportunity, ability and willingness to travel between locations as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • CMA, RMA, or equivalent Medical Assistant certification
  • Dermatology experience strongly preferred
  • Previous experience assisting with Mohs surgery, excisions, ED&C, nail procedures, or other surgical procedures
  • Experience supporting high-volume surgical providers
  • Familiarity with ModMed/EMA
  • Background in surgical dermatology, plastic surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, general surgery, or another procedure-heavy specialty
