Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level III Perinatal Center and teaching hospital in Milwaukee, WI, requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience with Level III Perinatal Care background.
Details
- Night shift position, 7pโ7:30a (1900โ0730), 36 hours per week on 12-hour shifts
- Labor & Delivery unit with 20 beds in a 228-bed teaching hospital designated as a Level III Perinatal Center and Accreta Center of Excellence
- High-risk patient population including high-risk mothers and newborns, with approximately 280 deliveries per month
- Patient types include placenta accreta, tubal ligation, cerclage, hysterectomies, pre-eclampsia, massive transfusions, COVID, and surgical recovery
- Patient ratios: 1:1โ2 for active labor and 1:3 for antepartum, following AWHONN staffing guidelines
- Charting via Epic; additional equipment includes Alaris pumps, Pyxis, fetal monitoring systems, and epidural pumps
- No set schedule; must be available to work any day of the week based on unit need
- Every other weekend rotation required based on unit need
- Every other holiday required based on start date
- Floating required to Postpartum and Women's Care Center (inpatient non-pregnant women); travelers float first
- No on-call requirement; callback possible in low-census situations
Requirements
- Active WI RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring) certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
- Level III Perinatal Care experience is required with no exceptions โ must have provided care for high-risk mothers and newborns
- Proficiency in fetal monitoring, maternal assessments and interventions, OB triage, cervical exams for labor progression, and post-partum and L&D recoveries
- Experience assisting with circulating C-sections (secondary nurse role), primary nurse for vaginal deliveries, and procedure assistance
- Epic EMR experience
- COVID vaccine required
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required for consideration
- Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
- Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include fetal monitoring, maternal and newborn assessments, OB triage, assisting with procedures, post-partum care, and L&D recoveries
- Does not serve as primary circulating nurse for C-sections, but may assist as secondary nurse
- Unit support includes a charge nurse, clinical resource nurse, phlebotomy (shared with RN), RT, house supervisor, certified nurse midwives, OBGYN providers, and OB anesthesia available onsite 24/7
- As a teaching hospital, OBGYN residents, family practice physicians, and midwives are present on the unit
- Orientation: Day 1 includes onboarding with the nurse manager followed by unit training; Day 2 involves preceptor training; Day 3 transitions to working with a buddy and an independent patient assignment
- PPE fit-testing conducted at the facility; CAPR/PAPR and single-use PPE available
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Free parking available in designated areas
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
