Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Arizona, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and the ability to titrate cardiac and insulin drips on night shifts.
Details
- Acute care Neuro Telemetry unit (5NNB / 7NNB) in a Level 1 Trauma hospital
- 32-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Patient population includes CVA, TBI, spinal surgery, encephalopathy, ESRD, trach patients, brain tumor, and patients with psychiatric comorbidities
- Average length of stay is 4–5 days; fast-paced, high-turnover unit with bedside report
- Cerner EMR used via Workstations on Wheels (WOWs)
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
- Holiday coverage worked into permanent rotation
- Float requirement to telemetry units and tele overflow in the ICU
- Central telemetry monitoring in place; EKG interpretation required
- Charge nurses take a light patient assignment; nurse aides available on all shifts for basic support
- SWAT RN (IV Team) available for difficult IV access; RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Neuro experience highly preferred
- Ability to titrate drips including Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Insulin
- Competency in sterile technique, including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- EKG interpretation skills required
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation (2 attempts allowed)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required
Additional Information
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Scrub color: steel gray
- Natural hair color required; no facial piercings permitted; men must be clean-shaven (for fit test compliance)
- Personal vehicle required
- On Day 1 of orientation, RNs complete a pass/fail SIMs Lab covering sterile Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; orientation also includes education on lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Floor-specific orientation is 2 days
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- First-time travelers are not explicitly welcomed — Level 1 Trauma experience and strong clinical competency are expected
