Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Lab Assistant for a 13-week travel assignment in Dallas, Texas. Required Qualifications:
  • One year of recent experience as a lab assistant
  • Current BLS (AHA/ ARC) or CPR certification
  • Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • National certification through ASCP or equivalent such as AMT, AAB, HEW certifications
  • Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
Summary:

The Lab Assistant assists with processing specimens, preparing samples for testing, maintaining laboratory equipment, and performing administrative tasks. This role is essential in assisting physicians and laboratory professionals in the diagnosis of diseases by ensuring accurate sample handling and documentation.

Essential Work Functions:
  • Prepare and process specimens for laboratory testing following established protocols
  • Assist in conducting basic laboratory tests and categorize results as directed
  • Label, organize, and store samples to maintain accurate tracking and prevent contamination
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure sample integrity and reliability
  • Document and record laboratory activities, test results, and sample information in lab databases
  • Maintain and clean lab equipment, ensuring proper function and compliance with safety standards
  • Assist with inventory management, including ordering and restocking laboratory supplies
  • Support administrative tasks, such as data entry, filing reports, and handling lab correspondence
  • Follow health, safety, and regulatory guidelines to maintain a sterile and secure laboratory environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:
  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
  • The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
  • Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
  • Physical Abilities - Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
  • Interpersonal Skills - Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
  • Technical/Motor Skills - Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
  • Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
  • Sensory - Must possess visual acuity and ability to effectively communicate
