Controller Position Overview

A growing, multi-entity organization is seeking a hands-on Controller to serve as a strategic partner to the CFO and lead core accounting operations. This individual will oversee financial reporting, audit, technical accounting, and team leadership, while also supporting forecasting, tax coordination, and key business initiatives.

This is a high-impact role ideal for someone who thrives in a complex, fast-paced environment and enjoys balancing technical accounting depth with leadership and strategic insight.

Responsibilities for Controller
  • Own and oversee the month-end close process and review financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) across a multi-entity structure
  • Review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and ensure accuracy and GAAP compliance
  • Serve as the technical accounting expert, including research and documentation for areas such as revenue recognition, leases, and inventory/COGS
  • Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and the overall internal control environment
  • Lead the external audit process end-to-end, including planning, coordination, and issue resolution
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with financial results
  • Review variance analysis and partner with leadership to provide insights and support decision-making
  • Support strategic initiatives, including financial modeling, business expansions, and operational decisions
  • Oversee tax compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions and manage relationships with external tax advisors
  • Own and improve accounting systems, tools, and workflows, driving efficiency and scalability
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Qualifications for Controller Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 3+ years in a leadership role (Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar)
  • Strong US GAAP and technical accounting expertise
  • Experience in a multi-entity environment with intercompany activity
  • Proven ownership of external audit processes
  • Experience managing and developing teams
Preferred
  • Experience in healthcare, pharmacy, telehealth, lab services, or other regulated environments
  • CPA (active or inactive) and/or public accounting background (Big 4 or regional firm)
  • Exposure to multi-state tax, sales/use tax, or payroll tax
  • Experience managing external tax advisors
  • Familiarity with mid-market accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks and similar tools)
