The Valet Ramp Travel Controller is responsible for maintaining the safe, efficient, and organized movement of vehicles, pedestrians, valet attendants, and guests throughout designated valet ramps and hospital entrance areas at Houston Methodist Hospital.

This position serves as a central point of coordination on the valet ramp and plays a critical role in preventing congestion, maintaining safe travel lanes, supporting efficient vehicle retrieval and staging, and providing a positive arrival and departure experience for patients, visitors, physicians, employees, and other guests.

The Travel Controller works closely with valet attendants, cashiers, transportation leadership, Houston Methodist personnel, security, and other operational partners to respond to changing traffic conditions and ensure valet operations remain safe, professional, and efficient.

Job Responsibilities

  • Guide vehicles to appropriate drop-off, pick-up, waiting, loading, and departure areas while minimizing congestion and maintaining clear fire lanes, pedestrian crossings, and emergency access routes.
  • Monitor ramp conditions and adjust vehicle staging or traffic patterns during peak periods, emergencies, construction, weather events, or other operational changes.
  • Communicate by radio and in person with valet attendants, supervisors, dispatchers, security, and hospital personnel to coordinate vehicle arrivals, retrievals, staging, and departures.
  • Maintain awareness of pedestrians, patients, wheelchairs, mobility devices, buses, shuttles, delivery vehicles, and emergency vehicles while directing traffic.
  • Provide courteous, professional assistance and clear directions to patients, visitors, physicians, employees, and guests.
  • Identify and respond to unsafe conditions, blocked travel lanes, unauthorized parking, traffic backups, or other hazards and promptly notify leadership as needed.
  • Report accidents, vehicle damage, guest concerns, equipment issues, or unusual activity according to established procedures.
  • Ensure cones, signs, barricades, and other traffic-control equipment are properly positioned and valet areas remain organized and presentable.
  • Follow all Aramark and Houston Methodist safety, customer service, confidentiality, and operational policies and complete required training and competency requirements.

At Aramark, developing new skills and doing what it takes to get the job done make a positive impact for our employees and for our customers. In order to meet our commitments, job duties may change or new ones may be assigned without formal notice.

Qualifications

  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment.
  • Strong situational awareness and attention to safety.
  • Ability to follow verbal, written, and radio instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Ability to maintain professional behavior when interacting with patients and guests experiencing stressful situations.
  • Must successfully complete all required Aramark and Houston Methodist orientation, safety, compliance, and department-specific training.
