Job description

Position Summary
Since our opening in 1987, New Hope Treatment Centers has been a welcoming place for young people in moments of crisis. Our programs have played a role in countless success stories, thanks to our relational approach to behavioral healthcare. The Therapist serves as the primary therapist and coordinates all treatment services through the provision of direct counseling of all residents on his/her caseload for the Department of Juvenile Justice in Butner, NC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provides individual, group, and family therapy services to assigned residents, maintaining an average caseload of 10 or fewer individuals.
  • Completes comprehensive clinical assessments within established timeframes in accordance with program and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures all clinical documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner, consistent with the standards and timeframes established by New Hope Carolinas.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with families, legal guardians, referral sources, and court representatives, as appropriate.
  • Provides regular, clinically appropriate updates on resident progress and actively involves residents, families, legal guardians, and referral sources in the treatment planning process and discharge planning.
  • Maintains professional boundaries and adheres to all confidentiality requirements, including compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with the nature and scope of the position.

Competencies
The Therapist must demonstrate competence in the following areas:
  • Clinical Assessment and Treatment-conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and develop individualized treatment plans for adolescents with developmental and behavioral health needs.
  • Trauma-Informed Care-provide trauma-informed therapeutic interventions that support emotional regulation, coping skills, and behavioral stability.
  • Behavioral Intervention and Crisis Management- respond effectively to behavioral escalations and crisis situations using approved de-escalation and safety intervention techniques.
  • Developmental Disability Competence-apply therapeutic approaches that are appropriate for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration-collaborate with psychiatrists, case managers, nurses, and residential staff to coordinate and support comprehensive treatment.
  • Documentation and Compliance-maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in accordance with organizational, state, and regulatory requirements.
  • Family and Systems Engagement-engage families, guardians, and external stakeholders to support treatment progress and continuity of care.
  • Cultural and Ethical Competence-deliver culturally responsive care while adhering to professional ethical standards and confidentiality regulations.

Professional Resilience-maintain professionalism, emotional stability, and appropriate boundaries when working with youth experiencing behavioral or emotional challenges
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a Human Services field with some experience in the mental health profession.
  • ABA experience a plus.
  • Must be license eligible in the state of North Carolina (LCMHC, LCSW, LMFT).
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, if transportation or community coordination is required.
  • Ability to pass required background checks, drug screening, and any state-mandated employment clearances.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals in behavioral health, residential treatment, or human services settings.
  • Knowledge of service planning, care coordination, and clinical documentation standards.
  • Familiarity with North Carolina behavioral health regulations and service systems.
