Job description

Position Purpose
This position functions as an Emergency Medical Trauma Technician Basic (ETTB) within established competencies and scope of practice, supply aide, and unit clerk to support in the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department (ED). Incumbent works under the direct supervision of an ED medical director, ED physician, and paramedic, in collaboration with a registered nurse.
When functioning as a technician, the incumbent will be asked to perform various technical procedures within established competencies and scope of practice as approved by Renown Health in the ED.
When functioning as a patient care provider in a team-based model with an ED physician and a registered nurse or Emergency Medical Trauma Technician Advanced or Emergency Medical Trauma Technician Paramedic, the incumbent will be asked to perform various technical procedures and skills within established competencies and scope of practice (Emergency Medical Trauma Technician-Acute Care Technician Practice Guidelines) as approved by Renown Health in the ED. (Except 200323)
When functioning as a supply aide, the incumbent is responsible to stock the ED with the required supplies, equipment, and instrumentation to ensure safe, effective patient care.
When functioning as a unit clerk, the incumbent is responsible to perform clerical duties, act as unit receptionist, coordinate unit/patient schedules and activities, efficiently use the computer and telephone, and maintain an orderly and efficient nurse's station. The incumbent will interface with all guests, visitors, families, and patients arriving at, or calling the ED. The incumbent provides directions and information as well as making appropriate referrals.
Nature and Scope
As a member of the ED team, this position provides technical skills within their competencies and scope of practice and communicates effectively with supervisors, other ED staff, physicians, and ancillary staff.
The demands on this position are very dynamic due to rapid changes in medical procedures, technical knowledge, instrumentation, equipment, and policies and procedures.
This position ensures that equipment is working properly before ED procedures, cares for equipment after procedure, and is responsible for reporting equipment that is not working properly or is broken.
Other related duties and flexible hours may be requested. This position has the freedom to rotate work areas and duties as needed and/or directed.
The ETTB must demonstrate the knowledge and skills within established competencies and scope of practice as approved by Renown Health necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and trauma patient population served and meet standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards.
Requires the ability to perform a 12 lead EKG.
Must have successfully passed the unit clerk skills checklist, the ETTB skills checklist (including the medication administration grid), and the orderly skills checklist during orientation and annually maintain competencies based on scope of practice as verified through completion of Professional Development Day in the Emergency Department.
Requires successful completion of trauma pathway in cost center 200326.
Incumbents are responsible for the safe application and maintenance of traction, orthopedic, and DME equipment supplied in the department and in any patient care department. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric patient served and meets standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards in cost center 400326.
Must successfully complete trauma technician skills checklist within established competencies and scope of practice as approved by Renown Health, which includes but is not limited to trauma documentation, maintaining cervical spinal immobilization, assisting in various trauma related procedures, appropriate chain of custody for gunshot or stab wound patients, and designation of appropriate trauma staff.
This position does provide patient care.
As a patient care provider in the ED Team-Based Model, the ETTB will be asked to perform various technical procedures and skills within established competencies and scope of practice as approved by Renown Health in the ED. The ETTB will be working closely with an ED physician and a registered nurse or an Emergency Medical Trauma Technician Advanced or an Emergency Medical Trauma Technician Paramedic in providing safe and age-specific appropriate patient care to the infant, child, adolescent, adult, and Geriatric patient population. Skills include physical assessment, medication administration, patient education, and other skills defined in the Emergency Medical Trauma Technician-Acute Care Technician Practice Guidelines. Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
Experience:
Six months Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) experience preferred, or six months Emergency Department Technician, or completion of the Renown Emergency Medic Intern Program.
License(s):
Current State of Nevada and National Registry of EMT (NREMT) Basic certification is required upon hire. NREMT certification must be in ACTIVE status within 90 days of hire.
Certification(s):
Current BLS certification by American Heart Association standards required.
Computer / Typing:
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
