Job description

We are Vista Defense Technologies (VDT), a government contracting and consulting firm supporting several military installations and federal agencies across the nation. VDT is currently seeking RN's to work as a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) RN Abstractors for our ongoing mission in San Antonio, TX.
What You'll Do:
  • Collect comprehensive, accurate data relating to trauma patients by abstracting all trajectories of care, verify and update all information compiled and enter data into the Registry in a timely manner, perform coding of injuries, procedures, and causes of injuries using standard medical record references, specifically ICD-9/10 codes, assign diagnoses AIS and ICD-9/10-CM codes, and complete ISS and other trauma score calculations for an average of 20 records per week, maintaining a 90% Accuracy Rate, as directed.
  • Utilize Abstracting Business Rules as described in data abstraction resources.
  • Serve as SME for TBI Clinical Data to JTS, MOTR, Role 1-5 personnel.
  • Assist PM with training activities specific to clinical abstraction, coding, and business rules for new and existing employees.
  • Provide quality assurance evaluations for clinical accuracy of Registry data at all Roles of Care, maintaining a 90% Accuracy Rate as directed.

What You Bring:
  • Minimum of five (5) consecutive years of nursing experience with at least three (3) years experience as a critical care nurse in a critical care unit, trauma unit, emergency department, or inpatient operating room.
  • Medical or Surgical ICU or Emergency Room or Operating Room or other Critical Care Background required.
  • Experience with medical records, coding, medical data entry and medical system design.
  • Medical or Surgical ICU or Emergency Room or Operating Room or other Critical Care Background required preferred ICD-9 Coding and previous work as medical abstractor preferred.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and office automation software (Standard Microsoft Office for documents, Outlook, Excel, and Access.
  • Previous Trauma Nursing experience. Military nursing experience is desired.
  • Bachelor's of Science (BS) in Nursing. United States Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Proof of immunization for TB Test; Hepatitis B vaccine, titer, or wavier, Tetanus booster within the last 5; and HIV titer.
  • Candidate must have U.S. citizenship or the ability to obtain citizenship, and be able to pass a government background investigation
