POSITION SUMMARY

The Solutions Design, Manager will consistently play a lead role in working directly with potential and current customers while also leading cross functional groups within the organization in support of various internal and external supply chain solution initiatives.  This position will consistently lead scoping efforts, data analysis, new operational designs, costing, pricing, layouts, proposal development as well as internal and external customer presentations.  This position will also play a role, as needed, in supporting new business implementations and continuous improvement projects for existing operations.

Other responsibilities associated with this role include playing a key part in establishing and managing timelines and task ownerships within the Request for Proposal response process as well as helping to facilitate on-time delivery and completeness of each team member assignment.  This role requires leadership in developing innovative supply chain solutions and internal solutions team tools and processes. 

The purpose of this role is to support the North America Region Solution Design Team in achieving organic and new sales growth targets within focus markets, verticals and products.  The ideal candidate will use their engineering, communication and analytical skills to lead the development of innovative, effective and compelling supply chain solutions that differentiate DSV's supply chain solutions design and execution capabilities to external and internal customers. 

The Solutions Manager will successfully lead multiple projects simultaneously.

The Solutions Manager will support the development of Senior Solutions Engineer and Solutions Engineer positions.

Principal Accountabilities (The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  It is not an exhaustive list of all expectations):

 

  • Lead multiple large-scale operational solutions design projects simultaneously.
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on time.
  • Ensure full compliance to the DSV Solution Design and Rules of Engagement process at all times.
  • Lead direct interface with customers through all phases of solution design and as needed, implementation planning.
  • Lead analysis of customer Request for Proposal information and data including identifying critical gaps and developing effective assumptions where required.
  • Ability to deal effectively with ambiguous situations and interpret customer information and data.
  • Leads operational design for new business including data needs assessment and collection, facility layouts, process design, staff planning, equipment specification, budgeting, pricing, assumptions documentation and proposal development.
  • Accountable for accuracy and content of the Solution Design response
  • Lead interface between internal functional groups throughout new business proposal development process ensuring effective communication and awareness across all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and lead internal and external customer presentations demonstrating solution approach and company capabilities.
  • Project Management and/or engineering support for new business implementations or operational enhancements as required.
  • Keeps abreast of relevant supply chain industry information, handling and storage equipment innovations, supply chain technology and operational best practices to drive innovation.
  • Keeps abreast of current DSV customer base and operating solutions for use in developing new solutions.

Working Environment:

Assignment Complexity: Work in a team environment on complex logistics related challenges where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.  Exercise sound judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.  Ensure schedules and performance requirements are met.

Accountability: Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.  Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks will be necessary.  Goal-oriented working style with an ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

Impact of Decisions: Ability to quickly grasp messaging intent and develop clear and concise content is critical.  Decisions related to messaging approach and content will impact on the overall growth of the organization.

Working Relationships: Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers. Requires the ability to change the thinking of or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations.

Scope: Ability to contribute to organizing and working within teams, establish clear timelines and accountabilities in support of the tender management process. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree required, preferably in engineering 
  • 4+ years working in contract logistics warehousing and/or manufacturing support solutions design within the third-party logistics industry preferred but similar experience in operational design and implementation outside of the third-party logistics industry is acceptable.
  • Solutions design and/or operations management experience in the Hi-Tech, Auto, Industrial, Healthcare, Retail and/or FMCG verticals.
  • Thorough understanding of Warehouse Operations, Data Mining/Data Analysis, P&L analysis, Return Calculations and Pricing Strategies.
  • Strong commercial accumen with direct experience in devlopment a wide variety of pricing structures including but not limited to fixed / variable, fully variable and cost - plus.  Ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of market competitive pricing
  • Operations management and/or implementation management experience is a plus. 

 

Computer Skills

  • Excellent computer software skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, VISIO required.  
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Power Query/Power Sheets, simulation software and/or network modeling software is a plus.


Language Skills

  • English (reading, writing, verbal)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and to build strong rapport and credibility both internally and externally.

Other

  • Previous experience at consulting companies with a supply chain focus or in the third-party logistics industry is a plus.
