Job description

SAFETY MANAGER
Bengal Crane & Rigging / Bengal Transportation Services
Position Summary
Bengal is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead and support safety and compliance efforts across our crane & rigging, transportation, construction, maintenance, and industrial operations.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring a strong field presence. The Safety Manager will work closely with operations, project leadership, supervisors, and employees to strengthen Bengal's safety culture, maintain regulatory and client compliance, reduce operational risk, and ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and continuously improve company safety and compliance programs.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, MSHA, DOT, ANSI, ASME, client, and company requirements.
  • Conduct routine jobsite and facility safety inspections and field audits.
  • Identify hazards, address unsafe conditions or behaviors, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Support safety planning for construction, industrial maintenance, shutdowns, turnarounds, crane operations, and specialty work.
  • Review JHAs/JSA's, pre-task plans, permits, lift plans, and other job-specific safety requirements.
  • Provide safety oversight for crane, rigging, lifting, and heavy industrial operations.
  • Verify required qualifications and certifications for crane operators, riggers, signal persons, and other safety-sensitive positions.
  • Lead or support investigations involving injuries, near misses, vehicle incidents, property damage, and environmental events.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate and support employee safety training, orientations, certifications, and competency requirements.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection records, training records, and compliance reporting.
  • Assist with client audits, regulatory inspections, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Coach supervisors and field employees on hazard recognition, accountability, stop-work authority, and safe work practices.
  • Lead and support assigned Safety Coordinators, Site Safety personnel, and other safety team members.
Qualifications
  • 7-10+ years of progressive safety/EHS experience, preferably within heavy industrial construction, crane & rigging, transportation, chemical plants, industrial maintenance, or similar environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing safety across multiple jobsites or operational locations.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety practices.
  • Experience with incident investigation, auditing, training, and corrective-action management.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with craft employees, supervisors, clients, and senior leadership.
  • Ability and willingness to spend significant time in active field environments and travel to Bengal jobsites as needed.
Preferred Certifications
One or more of the following is strongly preferred:
  • CSP, ASP, CHST, or CSHO
  • OSHA 500 and/or OSHA 510
  • MSHA Instructor Certification
  • NCCCO Lift Director or related crane/rigging certification
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification
What We're Looking For
The right candidate is not a "desk-only" safety professional. Bengal needs a visible, credible field leader who can build relationships with operations, recognize risk before an incident occurs, hold teams accountable, and help employees complete difficult industrial work safely.
This position requires regular travel to jobsites, industrial facilities, fabrication yards, plants, and customer locations. Work may include outdoor environments, active equipment, uneven terrain, elevated work areas, and other industrial conditions requiring appropriate PPE.
Bengal is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
