Job description

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Expand and strengthen MEC's carrier network by improving transportation sourcing and procurement processes through onboarding national/local carriers with cost competitive and effective service solutions.
  • Responsible for domestic truck RFQ projects with a lane rate benchmarking process to enforce price pre-negotiation and competitive lane rate awards to carriers.
  • Define truck cost review process with stations to identify abnormal cost expense.
  • Provide carrier routing guides for Stations and support in case of escalation.
  • Work with carriers to ensure capacity support and service consistency during seasonal surges as well as project-based volume fluctuations.
  • Design, develop, and implement KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to measure operational performance and process compliance.
  • Work with Station Management as it pertains to documenting carrier incidents.
  • Drive continuous improvement in carrier performance via carrier scorecards and host carrier audits and business reviews.
  • Ensure the effective use of systems and tools to support carrier vetting platforms, bid tools and transportation management systems.
  • Lead and manage assigned Domestic Transportation Associate(s).
  • Other duties assigned by management.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in logistics, Business Management, Business Administration preferred, combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in domestic freight logistics required, domestic freight forwarding experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience team leadership/management experience preferred.
  • Experience utilizing TMS systems to support transportation planning, performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Results-oriented, metrics-driven leader, with a track record of driving process implementation and improvements while delivering overall operating results.
  • Effective communicator and collaborative problem solver.
  • Ability to negotiate with carriers/forwarders to optimize shipping lanes and reduce rates (LCL, FCL, LTL and FTL).
  • Excellent organization, analytical, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be self-motivated, customer-service oriented and eager to ensure the success of the team.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency.
