Job description

Position Overview
The Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Driver is responsible for safely transporting patients to and from medical appointments, treatment facilities, and other approved locations. This role requires a high level of professionalism, reliability, and compassion, ensuring passengers receive timely, respectful, and compliant transportation services in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation Services
-Safely transport ambulatory, wheelchair-bound, and assisted passengers to scheduled medical appointments
-Adhere to assigned routes, pickup windows, and drop-off times
-Assist passengers entering and exiting vehicles while maintaining proper safety protocols
-Secure wheelchairs, mobility devices, and seat restraints according to training standards

Passenger Care & Interaction
-Provide courteous, respectful, and patient-focused service
-Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA standards
-Monitor passengers for comfort and report concerns appropriately
-Communicate clearly with dispatch regarding delays, no-shows, or changes

Vehicle Operation & Maintenance
-Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
-Maintain vehicle cleanliness and sanitation standards
-Report mechanical issues, accidents, or safety concerns immediately
-Ensure vehicles are stocked with required safety equipment

Compliance & Documentation
-Accurately complete trip logs, mileage reports, and electronic trip records
-Follow all local, state, and federal transportation regulations
-Comply with Medicaid broker, insurance, and client-specific requirements
-Maintain required licenses, certifications, and training

Required Qualifications
-Valid driverโ€™s license with clean driving record
-Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review
-Minimum age per state and insurance requirements (typically 21+)
-Strong communication and customer service skills
-Ability to operate GPS, dispatch apps, or mobile devices

Physical Requirements
-Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 75 lbs (wheelchairs and mobility equipment)
-Ability to assist passengers with limited mobility
-Ability to sit for extended periods and work flexible hours

Preferred Qualifications
-Prior NEMT, medical transport, or rideshare experience
-CPR / First Aid certification
-BLS Certification
-ACLS Certification
-Defensive driving or passenger assistance training
-Experience working with elderly or disabled populations
