Transportation Project Manager

Location: Northeastern Illinois Region
Compensation: $110,000 - $140,000 annually
A growing infrastructure engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Transportation Project Management Professional to oversee roadway and public infrastructure programs. This leadership role involves directing multidisciplinary teams and ensuring the successful delivery of complex transportation projects within regulated environments.
Position Overview
The selected professional will guide engineering teams through planning, design development, and construction support for transportation infrastructure initiatives. The role requires strong leadership, technical oversight, and client coordination skills to ensure projects meet schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise engineering and drafting teams responsible for roadway and infrastructure design.
  • Manage multiple transportation projects simultaneously while maintaining schedule and budget performance.
  • Oversee project lifecycles including planning, design execution, documentation, and closeout.
  • Coordinate with partner consultants and external stakeholders to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Maintain responsibility for project financial performance, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Support business development efforts including proposal preparation, scope development, and contract coordination.
  • Establish project objectives, manage risks, and implement mitigation strategies where needed.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
  • Provide technical direction in roadway geometrics, corridor modeling, staging plans, and related engineering activities.
  • Oversee preparation of engineering reports, environmental documentation, and design specifications.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews of project deliverables.
  • Engage with clients, public agencies, and community stakeholders through meetings and presentations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or similar technical discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 8-17 years of progressive experience in transportation infrastructure design and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex roadway or public works engineering projects.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience guiding technical teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong technical writing abilities.
