Lochmueller Group is seeking an experienced professional civil engineering leader to serve as the Roadway Division Manager for our Roadway Design team in Illinois.
 
About this role:
 
The Roadway Division Manager will oversee and be responsible for all of the roadway design team's projects and staff for the State of Illinois, ensuring the division's operational strategies and financial decisions are executed effectively and align with the overall strategies of the discipline and the firm. This includes mentoring the Roadway Team Managers and Project Managers; driving project profitability, quality, and accountability among Project Managers; investigating and developing new clients within Illinois; and expanding the roadway design teams footprint in existing offices and potentially new Illinois offices. The Illinois Division Manager will be in a high impact position, fostering a positive work environment while also collaborating with sales and revenue leadership and the Discipline Leader to expand the firm's market share within the State.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Division Leadership: Coordinating with Discipline Leaders and Regional Leaders to develop and implement operational strategies aligned with overall company objectives. Enforcing accountability measures for Project Managers, ensuring awareness of expectations and driving overall team performance. 
  • Operations and Quality: Directing division personnel and activities for project success. Collaborating with Project Managers to provide guidance related to client interactions. Monitoring project progress, performing QC/QA, and preparing reports to identify trends and progress. 
  • Project Management: Ensuring project deliverables are completed on time and within budget. Planning, organizing, and directing department activities, including project management, design, and construction oversight. Providing leadership in the planning, design, and execution of major projects. Serving as a project manager on various projects. Performing QC/QA and preparing reports to identify trends and progress.
  • Staff Management and Development: Directing multiple staff among the Illinois Roadway team, identifying staffing needs and actively participating in recruiting and hiring, conducting performance appraisals, ensuring effective resource allocation, and promoting a positive work culture. Mentoring direct reports and project managers and identifying training needs for staff development. 
  • Client Relationships and Business Development: Working closely with regional leadership and the Discipline Leader to develop and implement growth strategies within the division. Working alongside management and business development staff to identify and pursue opportunities, crafting effective business development strategies. Supporting client engagement, fostering strong client relationships and retention within the division. Actively pursuing the expansion of the Division's market share in regional procurements and representing the Division at industry events. 
  • Fiscal/Plan Performance: Overseeing financial aspects of the division, improving productivity and efficiency, and addressing negative project variances. Collaborating on budget development, implementing cost control measures, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. 
  • As additional opportunities become available, this role may also perform other duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications for this role:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering 
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)  
  • Typically requires 20+ years of progressive experience in Roadway/Highway design engineering with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Extensive experience working on roadway design projects with IDOT and other Illinois municipalities.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry trends and best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and business acumen to make informed decisions regarding resource allocation and financial management.
  • Progressive ability, capacity, and aptitude in administration to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

$150,000 - $190,000 a year
The salary range may vary depending upon the experience and capabilities of the selected candidate.
