Transportation & Insurance Manager position
ABOUT THE ROLE
As part of the Americas team, SANY is seeking a driven, forward-thinking, and highly motivated Transportation & Insurance Manager, for managing and optimizing SANY America's enterprise domestic and international transportation operations, carrier and logistics supplier relationships, freight procurement activities, transportation contracts, import/export logistics, freight claims, and cargo insurance recovery processes.
In addition to supporting the transportation operations of the assigned business unit, this position provides cross-functional leadership and governance for enterprise freight activities across multiple business units. The role partners with transportation, procurement, logistics, operations, and finance teams throughout the organization to develop standardized transportation strategies, carrier selection criteria, performance management processes, contract governance, freight claims administration, and transportation best practices. This position serves as the company's primary transportation and insurance subject matter expert and is responsible for coordinating corporate transportation risk management, insurance administration, and enterprise freight governance. The role partners with Legal Affairs, Finance, and business unit leadership to reduce operational risk, improve transportation performance, and maximize insurance recovery.
This position serves as both a strategic transportation leader and hands-on logistics resource, responsible for developing transportation strategies while actively managing day-to-day transportation execution, carrier performance, freight costs, shipment issues, and claims resolution.
The role partners closely with Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations, Sales, Finance, Legal, Risk Management, Insurance providers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, suppliers, and customers to ensure reliable transportation performance, regulatory compliance, cost control, and mitigation of transportation-related risks.
The position also provides functional leadership to transportation personnel across multiple business units by establishing common carrier management standards, transportation policies, performance metrics, and enterprise freight governance.
With current revenues over $500 million, SANY America continues to make strong progress and significant investments in the Americas market; the organization is now pursuing an aggressive growth strategy and is looking to move quickly beyond this initial platform and increase market share.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Transportation Operations Management

• Provide transportation leadership and support across multiple business units to ensure consistent transportation processes and best practices.
• Coordinate transportation strategies across business units to maximize carrier utilization, purchasing leverage, and transportation efficiencies.
• Support business units during transportation disruptions, capacity shortages, and emergency logistics events.
• Develop enterprise transportation standards and operating procedures.
• Manage daily domestic and international transportation activities including truckload, LTL, ocean, air, rail, parcel, and specialized freight movements.
• Ensure timely shipment execution from supplier pickup through final delivery.
• Develop transportation plans that support business requirements, customer commitments, and operational objectives.
• Resolve transportation disruptions including delays, capacity constraints, damages, and service failures.
• Identify opportunities to improve transportation efficiency, reliability, and cost performance.
• Support logistics planning for new products, suppliers, customers, and market expansion.

Carrier & Logistics Supplier Management

• Lead enterprise carrier selection, qualification, onboarding, and performance management across multiple business units.
• Develop standardized carrier evaluation criteria used throughout the organization.
• Coordinate annual carrier business reviews with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives with strategic transportation providers.
• Manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, 3PL providers, and other logistics partners.
• Develop and maintain carrier qualification requirements including:

• Create and maintain carrier scorecards and performance reviews.
• Monitor carrier performance and implement corrective action plans.
• Conduct periodic carrier business reviews.
• Build strategic transportation partnerships while maintaining competitive market conditions.

Transportation Procurement & Contract Negotiations

• Develop enterprise transportation sourcing strategies across all business units.
• Support transportation sourcing events for multiple operating divisions.
• Establish standardized transportation contract templates and commercial terms.
• Maintain corporate governance over transportation contracts, renewals, insurance requirements, and liability provisions.
• Partner with Legal to review transportation agreements, carrier contracts, broker agreements, warehouse contracts, and logistics service agreements.
• Coordinate enterprise transportation bid events to leverage total company freight spend and improve purchasing power.
• Manage freight pricing including:

• • Lead RFQ & carrier bid events
  • Negotiate base rates
  • Fuel surcharges
  • Accessorial charges
  • Detention/demurrage fees
  • Special handling requirements

• Analyze freight markets and benchmark transportation costs.
• Partner with Legal and Procurement on transportation contract terms, liability provisions, and commercial risk.
• Maintain transportation agreements and renewal schedules.

Freight Claims & Cargo Insurance Management

• Manage the complete freight claims lifecycle, including investigation, documentation, carrier notification, insurance submissions, recovery tracking, settlement negotiations, and claim closure across multiple business units
• Maintain freight claims reporting and recovery metrics.
• Manage freight claims for multiple business units while ensuring standardized claims administration and recovery processes.
• Serve as the corporate owner for all transportation-related insurance claims.
• Coordinate all corporate insurance claims including property damage, general liability, cargo, automobile, equipment, and other insured losses
• Work directly with insurance brokers, carriers, adjusters, legal counsel, and business unit leadership throughout the claims process.
• Maintain corporate claims reporting and loss history.
• Identify recurring loss trends and implement enterprise risk reduction initiatives.
• Support annual insurance renewals by providing transportation, claims, and loss data.
  Preferred: Property & Casualty Insurance Agent License or prior cargo insurance claims experience

Import, Export & Customs Management

• Manage international transportation processes including ocean, air, and cross-border shipments.
• Coordinate activities with freight forwarders and customs brokers.

Enterprise Freight Governance

• Establish enterprise transportation policies and standard operating procedures.
• Develop standardized transportation KPIs used across all business units.
• Coordinate transportation process improvements between business units.
• Share transportation best practices throughout the organization.
• Lead cross-functional transportation meetings involving Procurement, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, and Legal.
• Support acquisitions, new facilities, and business expansions from a transportation perspective.
• Evaluate transportation technologies and recommend enterprise improvements.
• Maintain governance over carrier compliance, insurance requirements, and transportation documentation.

Transportation Cost Management

• Leverage enterprise freight volume to negotiate improved carrier pricing and service agreements.
• Manage transportation spend and identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Analyze freight invoices, accessorial charges, and carrier billing accuracy.
• Develop transportation budgets and forecasts.
• Track transportation savings initiatives.
• Balance cost reduction with service reliability and customer requirements.

Reporting & Performance Management
Develop and maintain transportation dashboards and reporting including:

• On-time pickup percentage

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 7-12 years of progressive transportation, logistics, supply chain, or freight management experience.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives without direct reporting authority.
• Demonstrated experience managing enterprise transportation providers, carrier sourcing, contract negotiations, and supplier performance across multiple business units.
• Experience negotiating transportation contracts and supplier agreements.
• Experience managing freight claims and cargo insurance processes.
• Experience with domestic and international transportation.
• Experience with import/export processes and customs clearance.
• Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience developing transportation KPIs and performance dashboards.
• Proficiency with ERP systems, Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and Microsoft Excel.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor's degree Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, Business Administration, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field required.
