Transmission Repair Technician Automotive Dealership
Mancan Staffing has partnered with a reputable local automotive dealership in the Cambridge area to hire an experienced Transmission Repair Technician. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled automotive professional to join a busy and growing service department. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic abilities, hands-on transmission repair experience, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Diagnose transmission and drivability issues using computerized diagnostic equipment and testing procedures
Inspect vehicles to determine the cause of transmission malfunctions, leaks, noises, slipping, shifting issues, and related concerns
Remove, repair, rebuild, and reinstall automatic and manual transmissions
Perform transmission overhauls and complete internal transmission repairs
Replace transmission components including clutches, seals, valve bodies, torque converters, gears, sensors, solenoids, and filters
Conduct transmission fluid flushes and routine maintenance services
Test drive vehicles before and after repairs to verify proper operation
Utilize diagnostic scanners, specialized transmission tools, and service manuals
Perform electrical and computer-related diagnostics connected to transmission performance
Accurately document repair procedures, findings, labor times, and parts usage
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Follow dealership safety procedures and manufacturer repair standards
Communicate effectively with service advisors regarding repair status and additional repair recommendations
Assist with general automotive repair tasks as needed
Stay current on evolving automotive transmission technology and repair methods
Qualifications
Previous transmission repair experience is required
Strong knowledge of automatic and manual transmission systems
Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues
Experience with transmission rebuilds and overhauls preferred
Familiarity with computerized diagnostic equipment and repair software
Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair instructions
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Valid drivers license required
High school diploma or GED required
ASE certifications are a plus but not required
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in tight spaces for extended periods
Must be able to lift up to 50+ pounds regularly
Ability to safely operate lifts, jacks, and shop equipment
Comfortable working in a shop environment with exposure to noise, grease, chemicals, and varying temperatures
Preferred Skills
Strong mechanical aptitude
Welding or fabrication experience is a plus
Experience with domestic and foreign vehicles
Team-oriented mindset with dependable attendance
Strong time management and efficiency skills
