Job description

Position Summary

The Transload Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently transferring materials between railcars, trucks, containers, and storage facilities. This role ensures accurate handling, inspection, and documentation of products while maintaining strict safety and environmental compliance. The operator works in an industrial, outdoor environment and supports daily operations to keep freight moving on schedule.

Essential Functions

  • Perform transloading of bulk, liquid, hazardous, and/or dry commodities between railcars, trucks, and storage units.
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts, front-end loaders, conveyors, pumps, hoses, scales, and other industrial machinery.
  • Connect and disconnect hoses, clamps, valves, and pumps following established procedures.
  • Monitor product flow, pressure, and volume during loading/unloading.
  • Verify product quantities and ensure accuracy of bills of lading and shipment documentation.
  • Climb onto the top and crawl underneath railcars to inspect railcars, trucks, and containers for cleanliness, defects, and proper sealing before and after loading
  • Perform basic maintenance such as cleaning filters, greasing fittings, and checking fluid levels.
  • Record measurements, temperatures, weights, and other required data.
  • Complete electronic or paper documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate shipment discrepancies or quality issues to supervisors.
  • Safely operate heavy equipment and industrial machinery as required.
  • Report mechanical issues and support maintenance teams with troubleshooting.
  • Understand and follow all operating procedures and company policies, working safely and productively while adhering to all safety procedures.
  • Participate in cross-training to perform all facility functions.
  • Assist with additional facility duties including maintenance, landscaping, and painting.
  • Interact professionally with customers, railroad crews, team members, and visitors.
  • Complete all applicable computer-based documentation and record keeping.
  • Wear all required PPE including, but not limited to, FR clothing, hard hat, safety glasses, steel toed boots, respirator, other protective clothing

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Willing to work with liquid hazardous and dry bulk materials
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, or overtime as needed.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with industrial tools/equipment.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand operating procedures and safety documents.
  • Willing to receive general safety training

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Physically able to climb up and down rail-cars/ladders safely
  • Ability to work outside in ALL weather conditions (snow, rain, sub-freezing temps)
  • Can carry at least fifty (50) pounds
  • In good physical condition (able to walk one (1) to two (2) miles per shift)
