\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System ("System"). The System is a defined benefit retirement system covering governmental employees within the State of Maryland. It's composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with over 50 different rule sets. Main Purpose of Job

The Senior Analyst/Data Scientist will help develop the data, analytical, and\r\nquantitative capabilities that support the Investment Division's research and\r\ninvestment processes. \r\nThis position spans quantitative research, data and research\r\ninfrastructure, machine learning, applied artificial intelligence, and\r\nsystematic investment analysis. We recognize that candidates may bring\r\ndifferent combinations of expertise. The successful candidate is expected to\r\ndemonstrate substantial strength in oneor\r\nmore core areas, the ability to contribute across related functions, and the\r\ncapacity to develop adjacent capabilities over time.\r\n\r\nThe main purpose of this job:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Develop\r\n and maintain scalable data analytics, machine learning, and artificial\r\n intelligence infrastructure to support scalable quantitative research and\r\n investment processes.\r\n Establish\r\n and maintain automated data pipelines and robust data quality controls to\r\n ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of research and production\r\n environments.\r\n Build\r\n and maintain comprehensive feature libraries across macroeconomic,\r\n cross-asset, equity, and risk domains to facilitate systematic research\r\n and portfolio management.\r\n Conduct\r\n quantitative alpha research utilizing advanced statistical, machine\r\n learning, and modern AI techniques to generate and enhance predictive\r\n signals and investment insights.\r\n Contribute\r\n to data and technology scouting efforts, partnering with external vendors,\r\n research institutions, and industry participants to evaluate emerging\r\n technologies and alternative data sources that may contribute to excess\r\n returns.\r\n Support\r\n portfolio operations and execution processes, helping ensure efficient\r\n implementation and ongoing monitoring of investment strategies.\r\n Actively\r\n participate in macroeconomic and market discussions, assessing their\r\n implications across asset classes and contributing to portfolio\r\n positioning, particularly during periods of market stress and extreme\r\n conditions.\r\n Support\r\n internally managed portfolios, including monitoring exposures, risks,\r\n performance, and implementation considerations.\r\n Collaborate\r\n closely with Legal, Operations, Information Systems, Risk, Compliance, and\r\n other stakeholders across the Agency to operationalize new capabilities\r\n and ensure the successful deployment of investment and technology\r\n initiatives.\r\n\r\n\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Job duties include but are not limited to:\r\nDevelop and maintain scalable data analytics,\r\nmachine learning, and artificial intelligence infrastructure to support\r\nscalable quantitative research and investment processes.\r\n\r\n Build\r\n and continuously enhance data, analytics, and ML/AI infrastructure to\r\n support quantitative research, signal generation, portfolio construction,\r\n and investment decision-making.\r\n Implement\r\n scalable tools and workflows that improve research efficiency,\r\n reproducibility, and operational robustness across the investment process.\r\n Partner\r\n with investment, technology, and operations teams to translate research\r\n requirements into production-ready capabilities and infrastructure.\r\n\r\nEstablish and maintain automated data pipelines and\r\nrobust data quality controls to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity\r\nof research and production environments.\r\n\r\n Design,\r\n develop, and maintain automated data ingestion and processing pipelines to\r\n ensure timely and reliable access to investment data.\r\n Design,\r\n develop and maintain data quality control process to ensure the accuracy,\r\n timeliness and integrity of research and production environments.\r\n\r\nConduct quantitative alpha research utilizing\r\nadvanced statistical, machine learning, and Modern AI techniques to generate\r\nand enhance predictive signals and investment insights.\r\n\r\n Stay\r\n abreast of emerging developments in machine learning, artificial\r\n intelligence, and quantitative methodologies, and evaluate their\r\n applicability to investment research and portfolio management.\r\n Develop\r\n and apply advanced statistical, machine learning, and AI techniques to\r\n macroeconomic, cross-asset, equity, and risk datasets to identify\r\n predictive relationships and generate alpha signals.\r\n Research\r\n and model macroeconomic trends, market regimes, asset class returns, and\r\n risk dynamics to enhance forecasting and support investment\r\n decision-making.\r\n Build\r\n and maintain systematic forecasting frameworks for economic conditions,\r\n market environments, and asset price movements across global markets.\r\n Evaluate\r\n model performance and continuously refine methodologies to improve\r\n predictive accuracy, robustness, and risk-adjusted investment outcomes.\r\n Translate\r\n research findings into actionable insights that support portfolio\r\n construction, risk management, and dynamic asset allocation decisions.\r\n\r\nContribute to data and technology scouting efforts,\r\npartnering with external vendors, research institutions, and industry\r\nparticipants to evaluate emerging technologies and alternative data sources\r\nthat may contribute to excess returns.\r\n\r\n Identify\r\n and evaluate emerging technologies, AI capabilities, and alternative data\r\n sources that have the potential to enhance investment research and\r\n generate excess returns.\r\n Partner\r\n with external vendors, academic institutions, and industry participants to\r\n assess innovative datasets, analytical tools, and quantitative\r\n methodologies.\r\n Participates\r\n proof-of-concept studies and pilot programs to validate the investment\r\n value, scalability, and operational feasibility of new technologies and\r\n data solutions.\r\n\r\nOther duties as assigned.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Degree in quantitative discipline\r\nsuch as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Physics,\r\nEngineering, Economics, or Finance.\r\nExperience:Three years of relevant investments or finance experience.\r\nNote:Applicants can substitute a minimum of four years of relevant investments or finance for the required education qualification.\r\n\r\n\r\n
