Family Success Coach - Dads Moving Forward

Freedom Communities

Charlotte, NC

Job description

Reports To: Chief Impact Officer

Job Type: Full-Time, Salaried Exempt

Schedule: Monday to Friday, some evenings and weekends each month

About Freedom Communities

Freedom Communities (FC) partners with neighbors in the Freedom–Wilkinson Corridor to create opportunities in education, housing, employment, and wellness that lead to holistic transformation for a thriving community.

By limiting our geographic service area, we are able to go deep and work holistically to address the interconnected realities of life. Guided by our tagline, “family-centered community transformation,” we invest simultaneously in families and infrastructure so that as families transform, they transform their community as well.

Research shows that children cannot thrive in households where parents are struggling economically, and low-income parents cannot succeed without meaningful support for their children. As a result, our programmatic work is centered on a two-generation approach that combines parent and child interventions to strengthen families and promote optimal child development.

Our primary demographic is parents with children ages 12 and under. We believe these parents have the potential to shape the next generation, yet often need access to resources. After serving 15 cohorts of moms and children, we are now creating our Dads Moving Forward (DMF) program.

DMF is a 12-month, cohort-based cash incentive program designed to drive upward mobility for dads living in the Freedom Drive Corridor with at least one child under the age of 12. The program builds family stability by equipping dads with practical training and tools, a growth-oriented mindset, and a supportive peer network to strengthen their entire household. Participants receive compensation for their engagement to reduce barriers to participate while being rewarded for progress. Family Case Managers support dads and their children as they set and achieve goals to move their families forward. The inaugural cohort of DMF will be launched in 2026.

Role Overview

The Family Success Coach plays a pivotal role in guiding families toward sustainable progress. This is not a traditional case management role; it is a coaching-centered position focused on building trust, unlocking potential, and helping families chart a path toward long-term self-sufficiency.

The ideal candidate is a strategic motivator, compassionate listener, and skilled resource connector who thrives in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate/partner with the CEO of Urban Institute for Strengthening Families and Fathers Haven and other staff to implement curriculum and all other programming as it relates to DMF.
  • Recruit and onboard annual Dads Moving Forward cohort of 15 or more dads, ensuring clear understanding of program expectations and graduation criteria.
  • Facilitate monthly workshops and cohort-based activities that promote skill-building, peer support, and goal achievement.
  • Conduct weekly one-on-one coaching sessions with each participant and document progress in Apricot (case management database).
  • Support participants in setting and achieving SMART goals across key domains, including housing, education, employment, financial stability, parenting, and health.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in Apricot.
  • Coordinate and execute all elements related to DMF retreats.
  • Serve as retreat host for assigned cohorts, overseeing logistics such as meals, volunteers, childcare, transportation, and on-site issue resolution.
  • Build and maintain strong referral relationships with community partners and ensure follow-through on resource connections.
  • Participate in weekly DMF team meetings, bi-weekly FC staff meetings, and weekly supervision sessions.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, including EMPath Mobility Mentoring® and other relevant training opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with FC staff to plan and execute events, initiatives, and cohort activities aligned with organizational goals.
  • Contribute to organizational learning by sharing insights, trends, and participant stories that inform FC’s broader strategy and impact.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in case management, life coaching, or life navigation.
  • Life Coach Certification (preferred).
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and motivational interviewing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, data-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and emotional intelligence.
  • Passion for equity, family empowerment, and place-based transformation.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and case management platforms.
