Job Title: Medical Transcriptionist

Location: Barnabas Health Corp

Pay Range: $19.84 - $23.85 per hour

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview: Transcribes and enters technical medical data from recorded dictation on computer system and edits, prints, sorts, faxes and delivers copies of reports. Follows up inquiries from our medical staff in a prompt and courteous manner. Performs other clerical and typing duties as required. Behaves in a manner to promote a professional team oriented work environment and maintains a neat personal and physical environment in the work area. Participates in the quality improvement process

Qualifications:
Required:

  • High School graduate or equivalent minimum.
  • Has education and experience in medical terminology, fast and accurate medical transcription skills, computer work processing skills and office skills required to professionally perform the tasks related to the position of Medical Transcriber.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel. Min. 1 year experience preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Answers phones professionally and timely, routing inquiries to appropriate staff if needed.
  • Collects, collates, and catalogs consultation and reference lab reports as received, integrating them into the pertinent Pathology case.
  • Distribute Proficiency materials received to appropriate sections while maintaining tracking records.
  • Maintains records of slides & materials referred and returned to ensure continuity of material and information.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or directed within scope of department needs and capabilities.
  • Prepares consultation & reference lab work for shipment via appropriate commercial carrier. Maintains documentation for tracking.
  • Prepares daily conference reports and correlates/ documents them into pertinent Information System records.
  • Prepares monthly statistics and distributes to appropriate staff.
  • Prints and faxes Pathology reports as requested and in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Prints, collates, and disseminates section work process reports to Pathologists and section staff.
  • Scans reference and consult reports into the Pathology Information System.
  • Sorts and distributes Pathology reports to appropriate patient location for inpatients and physician mailboxes for outpatients.
  • Sorts tissue requisitions into numerical order and files. Maintains files in good order.
  • Types Addendum and Amendment reports from Pathologist dictation media.
  • Types various reports from dictated and manually transcribed Pathologist inputs, such as ANA and Transfusion Reactions.
