Job description

Position Summary:

Sidwell Friends School is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Program Assistants for our Lower School Extended Day program. This role is crucial in providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for students after regular school hours; and ideal for individuals passionate about working with children and creating a positive, engaging, and educational environment. This is a part-time, non-benefits eligible position.

Responsibilities:

1. Supervision and Support:

  • Supervise students during activities and ensure their safety at all times, while creating and maintaining an educational, nurturing and fun environment.
  • Facilitate transitions between activities and maintain order in group settings.
  • Supervise and assist students with daily homework and study materials.
  • Provide individualized attention and support to students as needed.
  • Act as a shuttle monitor riding over with Lower School students to the DC Campus (3-3:30 PM) and then back with MS and US students (3:45 - 4:15 PM), as needed.

2. Activity Planning and Facilitation:

  • Plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate (PK - 4th grade) activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and educational projects daily.
  • Guide students in participating actively and positively in all planned activities.
  • Foster a fun, positive, and inclusive environment where all students feel safe, valued, nurtured, and supported.
  • Plan, organize, and implement activities that align with holiday and special events that are dictated by the school calendar.
  • Attend and participate in full day special events and field trips, as scheduled.

3. Communication and Collaboration:

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and team members regarding program activities and/or student needs.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director, Assistant Directors and Program Assistants to plan activities and implement program policies and procedures.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as attendance tracking, snack distribution, and maintaining program supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining clean and organized program areas.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled.

4. Safety and Emergency Procedures:

  • Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
  • Be prepared to respond calmly and effectively to any emergency situations that may arise.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience working with elementary age children in a structured setting, preferably in a camp, school, or childcare setting.
  • Must be available to work 3 or more days per week (Monday through Friday).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; capable of demonstrating the ability to engage children in various activities and interact with all stakeholders.
  • Creative, responsible, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, responsible, and committed to the wellbeing and development of children.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).

Salary & Benefits

Compensation: Hourly Rate $18.00-$22.00. Hourly rate commensurate with experience and qualifications.
