Primary Function:
The Senior Consultant - Training & Development is responsible for leading the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of technical training programs for Dashiell's electrical engineering discipline, ensuring engineers at all levels have the standards knowledge, design skills, and professional development support needed to deliver high-quality substation engineering work.
This role focuses exclusively on training strategy, curriculum development, and engineer mentorship within the electrical engineering discipline. The position will ideally be based in our Houston, TX office located at 12301 Kurland Drive, Suite 400, Houston, TX 77034, with regular travel to other Dashiell offices and project sites; candidates based near other Dashiell hub offices may also be considered. This role will report to Dashiell's VP of Engineering.
Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
- Design, develop, and continuously improve technical training curricula for the electrical engineering discipline, including onboarding programs, skills-progression tracks, and refresher training aligned to Dashiell's design standards and quality processes.
- Facilitate recurring training sessions, workshops, and lunch-and-learns covering substation design practices and applicable codes and standards, including NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Partner with the VP and Director of Engineering to identify skills gaps and training needs across offices, and translate quality trends, QAQC findings, and audit results into targeted training content and corrective-action learning modules.
- Conduct new-hire onboarding and technical orientation for engineers joining the electrical engineering discipline, ensuring consistent ramp-up on Dashiell tools, standards, and design practices.
- Track training completion, competency assessments, and individual development plans for engineering staff, and report on program effectiveness to engineering leadership.
- Mentor engineers and supervising engineers across all offices to support their continued professional growth, technical development, and advancement along Dashiell's engineering career ladder.
- Develop and maintain SharePoint-based course content and learning materials to expand Dashiell University (Dashiell U) curriculum for the electrical engineering discipline.
- Coordinate with the Vice President and Director of Engineering to standardize training materials, drawing practices, and design procedures across all offices and groups to reduce errors and improve overall efficiency.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on substation design standards, providing technical guidance during training sessions, customer calls, and internal engineering discussions as needed.
- Monitor changes to applicable codes and standards and update training curricula and course content accordingly to keep engineering staff current.
- Assist the engineering team with design or QAQC review activities as requested, providing hands-on technical support during periods of reduced training workload.
- Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.
How You Will Make an Impact
- By developing and delivering structured training programs, you will strengthen the technical capabilities of Dashiell's electrical engineering staff and support consistent, high-quality design outcomes.
- By mentoring engineers and guiding their professional development, you will build a stronger pipeline of qualified talent and support long-term succession planning within the engineering department.
- By translating quality trends and lessons learned into targeted training content, you will help the department proactively prevent design errors and reduce costly rework.
- By expanding Dashiell University (Dashiell U) course content, you will create a scalable, self-service learning resource that benefits engineers across all offices.
- By standardizing training materials and design practices across offices, you will improve consistency and efficiency throughout the engineering department and reinforce Dashiell's reputation for technical excellence.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or other relevant field from an accredited program.
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in electrical substation engineering and design.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is highly preferred; if registered in a state other than the state of practice, licensure must be obtained within one year of hire.
- Extensive knowledge of substation design, including equipment sizing, protection and control, grounding, one-line development, and construction drawing packages.
- Strong knowledge of applicable engineering standards including NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI as they apply to substation design.
- Demonstrated experience developing, delivering, or leading technical training programs, curricula, or mentorship initiatives for engineering staff.
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and instructional communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, effective training content.
- Experience coordinating or standardizing engineering practices across multiple offices, groups, or project teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and interface professionally with engineering teams, management, and customers.
- Proficiency in common word processing, spreadsheet, and email software; familiarity with SharePoint or similar platforms preferred.
- Driving is not required for this position; however, occasional travel to Dashiell office locations or project sites may be required.
