As an Assistant Controller on Pinionโ€™s Accounting Services (PAS) team, youโ€™ll play a critical role in delivering highquality financial results while collaborating with others. This role combines handson accounting expertise with project management and meaningful client interaction - making it ideal for professionals who enjoy both detail and leadership.

In this position, youโ€™ll serve as a key point of coordination between bookkeepers, controllers, tax, and audit & assurance (A&A) teams to ensure timely, accurate, and insightful deliverables for clients, many of whom operate within the agriculture industry.

What our team does:
PAS is where public and private accounting meet. PAS serves a wide range of clients and offers a vast array of services from after-the-fact bookkeeping to full back office monthly close procedures. As a member of the team, you will get the client variety that being a public accountant offers with the general ledger-focused nature of private accounting. The PAS team works hand in hand with the Tax and A&A teams as we act as the clientโ€™s accounting staff and finalize financial statements for others in the firm to prepare their final deliverables.

What youโ€™ll be doing:

Client Service & Relationship Management

  • Serve as the key point of contact for clients, coordinating the collection of financial data and supporting documentation
  • Collaborate with the PAS Controller to assess and implement client reporting requirements in accordance with service agreements
  • Support client onboarding activities, ensuring timely and accurate setup of accounting processes and deliverables

Financial Reporting & Close Management

  • Review financial statements and supporting workpapers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to accounting standards
  • Support the timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in alignment with established deadlines
  • Partner with the PAS Controller to enhance financial reporting packages and deliverables

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and provide day-to-day oversight of 2-4 bookkeepers
  • Train, mentor, and develop team members, ensuring continuous improvement in performance and technical skills
  • Demonstrate leadership by proactively managing projects and guiding team execution

Process Improvement & Documentation

  • Develop, document, and maintain standardized and client-specific accounting processes and workflows
  • Create and refine financial reporting templates based on client requirements and service agreements
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and drive implementation in collaboration with leadership

Systems & Technology

  • Provide support for internal teams and external clients related to accounting systems and software utilization
  • Troubleshoot system and process issues, ensuring effective resolution and improved efficiency

What youโ€™ll need for this position:

Role-Specific Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting
  • 3 to 5 years of accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with financial reporting
  • Demonstrated success in preparing and presenting accounting client deliverables
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience is valued
  • Experience working with agricultural clients is a strong plus

Digital Fluency

  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, and Xero; Experience with Basis a plus
  • Comfort navigating and learning new technologies, including AI enabled accounting tools and digital workflows
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support accounting software used by internal teams and clients
